When rational people want to eliminate a social safety net that helps millions of people, they offer up a comprehensive alternative.

There's an old saying in corporate management.
When you want to go to the boss and recommend the scrapping of a corporate program or initiative, you don't go in empty. You always have an alternative plan B, ready to offer or else you come out without a job.

Well we, the American people, are the Boss, and we want to know your detailed, comprehensive, alternative replacement. Then we'll evaluate the two programs side by side and make a decision which is better for society, just like we've always done throughout our history.

Now what's your comprehensive, detailed plan "B" to replace food stamps with......republicans? (Let the republican dancing around the issue begin)

GReat! We'll use that come election time and make sure every voter knows that is the Republican plan for replacing food stamps. We might just take over the House yet, if some more think like you.

Except the Republican Party does not want to do away with food stamps. Reform yes, but elimination no.

Great! now were getting somewhere. Glad you feel that way. If you read this thread, most conservatives have only posted the reasons to trash the whole program, not fix it and certainly have not offered one alternative. It appears that food stamps and Obamacare fall into the same republican box of 'Kill and eliminate" rather than "Fix and Amend".
What are the comprehensive reforms the republicans have in mind? Let's get down to specifics rather than bumper sticker solutions.

I prefer public cafeterias where the poor would actually have to climb off their couch and show up if they want to eat. Nothing that can be taken home and traded on the black market for cash. I want a safety net and not a hammock.

How about vouchers with photo ID that must be shown to obtain services.

You better be prepared (worried) about how soon the U.S. Dollar no longer has any value. Your money is gone, no good.

That will happen SOON.

It's funny how Republicans always want to pit the poor who rely on food stamps as a "Government" waste while they subsidize farmers to the "10th. degree!
Perhaps people wouldn't need 'Welfare" or "food stamps" if they were paid a "Living wage" but that will bankrupt companies if they paid $10.10 a hour right?

$10.10 a hour equals $404 a week Gross pay! Try living on that.

It's personal responsibility.
Yet you guys seem to think you get a vote too. The right-wing stance on this seems to be "I think these people did something I disapprove of, so society should not care for them." But what if people don't care what you think of these imagined actions? I certainly don't.

And why just poor people? Republicans are obvious fools and only fail when in power. To support them is, in my opinion, irresponsible. People with lawn signs supporting such fools should have all subsidies, write-offs, and tax credits abolished. As punishment for irresponsible behaviour, doncha know.

How about not spreading your legs and producing offspring that are only worth $10.10/hour.
