More lefty hypocrisy.
It's okay when government profits on the back of the taxpayer and businesses vis-a-vi criminal tax rates, but heaven forbid a private industry profit from it's own resourcefulness.

Thank you so much. I'm really hoping to keep this thread in the "Other Controversies" category but, then, to get my questions answered about taxes on cigarettes, I'm sure to find out it's really Obama's fault.

I'm glad- price 'em higher. Every smoker always throws most of his/her gross butts on the ground whenever they are done trashing the place for the rest of us.

Great. Tax cigarettes until everyone either quits smoking or gets their smokes from other sources (home grown or mail order from another state). Then what are spend crazy states going to do with their loss of tax revenue? Transfer those taxes onto booze? Easier to quit drinking or make your own booze than it is with cigarettes. Those who were in favor of sin taxes on cigarettes, don't start crying when the tax man comes for something you enjoy.

I suspect there is a huge black market for cigs in NY. So the end result probably is no increase in revenue for NY.

This is one liberal policy I agree with if you want to blacken your lungs you should pay for the privilege in the form of high taxation.

Why should the rest of us bear high health insurance costs for your selfishness and weakness?

Kinda like water bottles. I see them everywhere, so let's put a $5 per bottle tax on water bottles.

By your theory we should tax McDonalds and Hostess cakes at the same rates.
