I know it is shocking, but Buffett is a rich guy who realizes that he has enough. Let's face it, if a billiionaire pays 17% or 47% in tax, it makes absolutely no difference. They are set for life, as are all their descendents. What is amazing is when a billionaire refuses to pay sufficient taxes to support their country. What could they possibly lack that the extra money could give them?

And what is most amazing is when people fight so passionately for low taxes for billiionaires, when their fellow citizens are getting bankrupted by a heart attack or case of cancer. Strange.

i guess the same people who are fooled by the president are easily fooled by buffett as well.

you do realize that he isn't actually giving away his money, don't you? he ROSE on the world's richest scale. why isn't he out creating jobs and paying taxes on that? he can do it.

here's another idea. get the government to spend LESS AND BE MORE RESPONSIBLE WITH WHAT THEY GET and then they might have money left over to take care of the citizens.

why don't you complain that the government handing out foreign aid like candy is hurting your fellow citizens?
or early government retirement and pension taking?
or unfunded pensions?
or double dipping?
or the uncontrolled illegal immigration?
or the federal reserve devaluing your money?
or the endless unwinnable freaking wars?

take care of those government policies first and then get back to us on taxes. personally, i would LOVE for obama to slap a huge tax on billionaires worth over 40 billion dollars.

it wouldn't happen, but it would shut buffett up.

And this is exactly what I truly, truly, TRULY do not understand. Why the poor/middle class advocate for people whose wealth is beyond their wildest dreams.

Like I say: don't cry for the rich - they are not crying for you.

I think this thread is almost a perfect example of why it's pointless to talk to right-wingers. They're not even remotely connected to reality anymore, suggesting that we do things that no other successful nation on earth does. Flat tax? Are you KIDDING me? The one thing that would accomplish is kicking millions of the poor, the ones hanging on by a thread right NOW, out on the streets.

Tell me how taxing a billionaire at 100% is going to stop someone poor from going bankrupt from a heart attack or cancer? One has nothing to do with the other

I love Warren Buffet. I wish he were my granddad. I respect his opinion and he certainly speaks with more expertise about issues concerning his income strata than I could ever do. He says he paid only 17% of his taxable income in 2010.
I paid only 13%; so, my Turbotax program must be better than his whole team of tax accountants. He did mention that he knows people at 0% tax. I do too, but they, I have no doubt, aren't doing as well as his friends.
It goes to show that a tax code put together piecemeal over decades by different leadership with their own constituency to pander to can get so incredibly complicated and so convoluted, that a billionaire can have less of a tax burden than his middle class secretary, or billionaires and low income earners can both pay zero tax.
