that seems backwards to me. Seems to me like if you taxed wealth, but let people KEEP 100% of their own wages, you'd allow average people to build wealth.

if you tax wages, but don't tax wealth, then you're just preserving the wealth for the people who are already wealthy.
Luxembourg is a tax haven for one. Two, The Netherlands has its own oligarchy that is effectively tax exempt. One example is Queen Beatrix. Ad ro Norway, the same applies here. The billionaires can afford, and will advocate for higher taxes on EVERYONE EXCEPT THEM. You just don't get it, you are so blind to partisanship and class envy you don't want to open your eyes. They can AFFORD TO PRICE OUT THEIR COMPETITION after they've exhausted all of their loopholes

I advocate having no income tax so does Ron Paul, but people like you think the world will go the way of Mad Max without an income tax. It's people like you that prevent the everyman from going up the economic ladder because it's people like you that support taxing wages and support empty, sneaky rhetoric like Buffet's. EVERY country has loopholes that billionaires can hide their income. Laws in Norway do not matter because the uber rich can STILL hide their money in tax havens, or just use loopholes to not report their earnings. The only countries that do not have this problem are Cuba and North Korea.

Could it be other rich Americans feel the same?
"Rich" according to obama/dems/libs is anything over $200K, so I doubt it.

Remember now, Buffet is an obama supporter...but maybe he should just write a check...no one is stopping him.

it's bizarre that simply suggesting we tax billionaires as much as we tax regular workers is considered to be a controversial idea among the far right.

The typical talking points don't cut it: "so-and-so % of people pay no income tax" -- irrelevant. "buffett can donate his money to the treasury himself" -- irrelevant. "the rich will leave the country" -- not true. "this would kill jobs" -- not true. The far righties on this board can't stand it that Buffett has more credibility than all of them put together.
Typical far left response. Raising capital gains taxes hits millions of working Americans who are saving their own money for retirement. The far left doesn't care. Just raise taxes on ANYONE who has money.

It's bizarre that the far left always votes to raise taxes, even though they are increasing taxes on themselves and millions of hard working tax paying Americans.

It's also bizarre that the far left want to increase the size and power of our already bloated wasteful government.

That's the issue. Why is a 15% capital gains rate sacred? Buffett himself is saying that nobody is deterred from investing, even when the capital gains rate was 39%.

In other words, there is no economic reason to have such a low rate and it's just a gift for to the rich.
wrong

buffet had an INCOME of 100k

he had capitol gains of 41 mill

and he did pay ALOT of taxes

dont you think 18% is enough????

yet his secretary (earns 60k) paid nearly ZERO in federal income tax, and only 8% (6% plus 2%) in payroll tax

I myself earn 60k and pay ZERO in federal income AND payroll tax

we need a FAIR system..where EVERYONE pays their fair share

either have a flat( a system of EQUALITY) income tax which would still not be totally fair since a majority of income is not reported...or go the the even better and fairer spending tax

Americans For Fair Taxation: Americans For Fair Taxation

How can it be a "tax haven", if it has this evil "wealth tax" that will supposedly "drive away all the rich people" ?

Are you suggesting that the rich in the Netherlands are exempt from the wealth tax?

Where do you see that Norway's billionaires don't pay the wealth tax?

I note you forgot to mention Switzerland, another well-known haven of foreign capital.

LOL

despite the fact that I've advocated abolishing taxes on wages.... Oh I dunno... in about 2 dozen threads.

You're an anti-tax ideologue and your rhetoric proves it.

We have a government, we need to fund it, taxation levels should move back to where they were in the past. No one is suggesting any tax rates that haven't been seen in the last 20 years, but the rhetoric from you guys makes it sounds like the government is going to seize 90% of what every upper middle class person makes. I still don't get how a 2% increase on TAXABLE INCOME over 250K is a socialist seizure of wealth. Your hyperbole is that of a crazy narrow minded idealogue and it's killing our country more than the evil socialist Obamao ever could because so many stupid people are buying into it who have nothing to gain from holding those views.

So does the wage tax, and the payroll tax.

the capital gains tax affects working people less than the wage tax and the payroll tax.

....

Raising corporate income taxes will not cost Buffett any more than it will cost you and I and millions of other Americans. CONSUMERS pay all corporate income taxes.

Typical far left proposal: Raise corporate taxes which are paid by all consumers regardless of how poor they are.

And like I said before, after the billionaires have exhausted all their loopholes and moving their money and/or wealth offshore, they can still afford to price out their competition. Seriously, if you put aside the blind partisan Democrat rhetoric.....

Total BS. If you have money in a 401K, you don't pay any taxes until you start withdrawing, and then it's taxed as income, not capital gains. Stop telling lies.
