so this is the day you should mark: when the housing market is stable, when unemployment is low again, and we have a budget surplus, that's when Bush's mistakes will have been fixed.

What would make you think that? Just because you're an ideological wingnut doesn't mean all of us our. Obama must take blame for his own mistakes the same way Bush has to. Obama's biggest mistakes so far are his failures to change Bush policies.

Let's say Obamacare ends up being even worse than LimBeck says it's going to be though. Let's say 50 percent of American companies leave just to avoid paying for it. Let's say 25 percent of Americans lose their healthcare, as companies make their employees contractors to avoid paying for their healthcare.

Three years into a new administration, you're not going to hear me -- or any other rational liberal -- crying and moaning about when the new president is going to own the economy.

Bush was a horrifically bad president. The two unfunded wars and steep tax cuts will always be his fault. Forever.

Oh, please. He'll never take responsibility. He's blaming Bush less lately, but has started to ramp up the "bad luck" excuse. Always blaming anything and everyone but himself. A true narcissist.

When was Bush President? Two and a half years ago? The cons are still blaming stuff on Carter (President 30 and a half years ago) and LBJ (forty two and a half years ago)

I have never once in my life heard a liberal say, "When will these conservatives quit blaming Carter for giving away the Panama Canal?" Cons are just such irrational babies. Shut the hell up already. You guys elected a disastrous, catastrophic abortion to lead us into the 21st century. Unfortunately, what promised to be a little remembered one-term mistake became the mistake of a century after 9/11. You all need to own that. I see you are now admitting what a horror Bush was, but instead of taking personal responsibility for him you are calling him a "liberal"? As if liberals voted for him. Get a grip! Seriously.

I agree in theory, But the problem is much of the economy has nothing to do with the government but the actions of private businesses and consumers (Us) and the solutions can only be assisted partly by the government, such as keeping some major businesses from going under, which does save some jobs. Job creation is not the job of the government and any one that blames the high unemployment rate on the government is ignorant on how the economy works or are just using as a excuse to b*tch about the other guy. So, when it comes to the economy the government can only be part of the problem and only part of the solution, it of it falls back on Us the consumers and on businesses.
Other areas ARE the job of the government; spending and defense being the two major areas. On spending we need to make cuts, but they must be made in a rational manner. One does not cut off funding to social programs that aid American citizens, while continuing to send Billions off to nations around the world many of which do not need the aid or hate us as a Nation and People, that is ludicrous. Reform the social programs we have so that they are efficient and waste and fraud are minimized. Stop subsidizing big oil, coal and lumber companies; they do not need our money to run their own business. Remove the tax cuts for the rich, now and later for everyone else, taxes where high under Clinton and the economy was doing fine, we need the revenue to pay off some of our debt and trickle-down economics has been proven to be a myth.
On the military we need to get out of the nation building business, it is not our job and it rarely works if the citizens are not behind it in a big way. Pull out of Iraq, NOW, pull out of Afghanistan within 24 months, close the military bases in Europe, they can now defend themselves and if they cannot they better learn. Remove the waste in DOD spending and end the contractor company deals that are wasting Billions in US spending, if the military has a need for the services they provide then for most of them the military needs to build it not their own branch of service, do it themselves.
SO, to wrap it up when it comes to Obama:
Economy: Work with the Repubs on rational budget cuts; insist on ending the tax cuts for the rich. Yes, much of the mess was due to things that happened before you were elected but you must do what you and the government can to lessen the impact and assist in the recovery. Push for a Flat or Consumption Tax, it will bring more revenue and will be fair to all.
Military: Do not get involved in any more wars an get us out of those we are in as soon as possible. The military is tired of fighting full time and it is time to stop.

When the economy improves, then the liberals will say it belongs to Obama. And not one day earlier.

The economy belongs to US, meaning the consumers and the business community, the economy is not the JOB of our Government, past or present, only Socialists think the governments job is to get us JOBS.

How we got here economically can partially be blamed on Bush, and can always be blamed on Bush, no time limit.

The fact that we haven't improved much can not be blamed on Bush.

The fact that the economy hasn't improved much can be attributed to:

  • The fact that a major economic downturn and structural problem will take a long time to get better.
  • Too meager of a government stimulus, partly Obama's responsibility, which is due to:
  • Fierce opposition by the GOP in Congress to any solutions other than cutting taxes on the wealthy.
