By a show of hands...who actually realizes that the Sun isn't a "news" paper? All this debate over something from that rag? The OP should be embarrassed to have started this thread in the first place.

There were good reasons why both Britain and the US (which inherited those laws from Britain) eliminated those laws. There was too much of a threat to social stability. Once a substantial amount of the populations were in cities then it was way too dangerous to social peace. Occasionally even rural populations had uprisings.

Whenever talk comes up out making people work for their taxpayer funded lives, it's not conservatives who get upset with the idea.
Conservatives don't seem fond of creating conditions so these people can work anymore. (At one time they did).

And while abortion has not always been a right/left issue in the US it has been one in the last 30 years with some exceptions.

I am what some would consider on the left and I see no way to rationalize this. I don't think one should get rewarded for having children. They are a choice. An expensive one at that. Why do you assume anything the right leaning folks dislike the left will automatically like?

"I'm sure she'll make a wonderful mum and will teach her children discipline like I have."

I'm sure good old mom did teach her children disipline. The best way to disipline your girls, is to let their BF's stay overnight...!

It sounds like she has a different view of what disipline is than the rest of us!

People act as this is some unusual act. Its not. Parents condone all sorts of behavior and, in fact, encourage it, from their kids. Especially children who are better then their parents; these parents live vicariously, through their own children. They will pimp, pander, and do whatever to get the recognition they wanted, through their kids. Moreover, they cannot understand WHY anyone would question it.

This is a good case for forced contraception. Shoot these girls up with Depo until they're at least 18 AND get married.
