NATO is more or less the Military of the European Union and we have no reason to be providing them a military. Withdraw from NATO. As for Syria, Libya, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Iraq and Afghanistan; Sorry we're broke

Nope. Not interested in any more nation building, or continuing to meddle in the affairs of the Middle East any longer. They've been fighting since the beginning of time over there, and if they haven't learned by now, they're not going to!

Agreed ditch NATO and UN and the US and Canada go on to form Fortress North America.

Fortress North America is a term used both during the Second World War and more often in the Cold War to refer to the option of defending Canada and the United States against their enemies if the rest of the world were lost to them.

It was viewed only as a last-ditch option in case Europe and Asia were overrun by the fascists or Communists. At the outset of the Cold War there were some, especially in the United States, who supported the isolationist idea of fortifying North America and abandoning international involvements. This option was rejected with the formation of NATO and the decision to permanently station troops in Europe.

During the Cold War significant planning and effort went into developing continental defense systems just in case. Most notable were the formation of NORAD and the setting up of radar lines in the Canadian Arctic. Canadians were long concerned that the adoption of a Fortress North America strategy involving close intergovernmental links and the loss of outside links would inevitably result in the nation's absorption by the United States.

In the aftermath of the September 11th attacks the idea of Fortress North America has been revived as a strategy of keeping both nations safe from terrorism while keeping the Canada/U.S. border undefended and open to trade.

We can't always believe the news reports our media throws at us.

Remember when we were told that the Serbs were creating a genocide by killing hundreds of thousands of Albanians in Kosovo? A genocide we were told that existed but there was no evidence of? We were told it was the second Hitler blah blah blah... none of it ended up being true and it was the Serbs who were the ones being attacked in their own country.

I usually read all news sources before I begin to believe something. I don't exactly trust the information the American media puts out there.

The US cannot "withdraw" from NATO, the US is NATO. You would have to completely abolish and rewrite the entire NATO Charter in order to exclude the US.

NATO served a useful purpose when the other European nations were still recovering from WW II, and they were facing the USSR and the Warsaw Pact. However, they are not recovering from WW II any longer, and the USSR and Warsaw Pact have ceased to exist. Therefore, it is time that NATO also ceases to exist.

The US and NATO have no stake in fighting Syria, but I would cheer if Turkey kicked the **** out of Assad.

We wouldn't have to; the other members would.

Okay.

But if you withdraw from the ME and let that void be filled with Iran, Russia and China then you'll have given them, and given them direct access to, 75% of the world's energy resources.

Considering how much energy you consume as a nation you'll end up being their rich crack head and they'll be your crack dealer.

But we are also Nato, how could we get away from that fact. As far as the US being broke, we are broke, that ain't no lie. What Country wants to come to our Broke A-- Country and give us a helping hand. Are you saying the US should abolish or withdraw from Nato.
