The problems of Somalia have only been worsened by our intervention, we need to stay out of their affairs. They would be better for it. We should stay out of Africa altogether.

I suggest you read this article.

Somalia was a sideshow in the war on terror
The roots of al-Shabaab's rise lie in that fatal US miscalculation (backed by the EU) to support with air strikes Ethiopia's occupation of Somalia and remove the relatively moderate Islamic Courts Union, despite it being the only force to have achieved any degree of stability in the country in the past 20 years. Deep historic enmity between Ethiopia and Somalia provided al-Shabaab with the chance to exploit widespread nationalist anger to gain power.

Yes, I thought that was clear. It's not our problem and not our place to give even one life to save the whole damn cesspool there.

No, it is not. When they start acting like evolved human beings in a civilized society worthy of respect, I may change my opinion. Until then, I'm not holding my breath... but you are free to hold yours.

And I immediately corrected myself, saying such a comparison was belittling and unfair... to the chimps. Actually I have much more respect for the animal kingdom than that and apologize wholeheartedly to any chimps who may have read what I posted. I am genuinely sorry.

No, this is outright realism.

So when are you moving to Somalia to help them? Will you perhaps find an Internet cafe from where you can periodically update us on your progress?

We've been down this road before with Somalia......remember what happened?

Let's let their friends and neighbors help them out this time.

Last time I checked, Somalia was in the hands of radical islamists.

In due time, as long as you take the rest of the Middle ast (Iran) and install a dictator.

Then you can work your way back southwestward.

The best thing we can do is to mind our own business. We have our own problems and putting our nose where it is not only unwanted but doesnt belong helps no one.

We need to start worrying about things in our own country and try to start fixing those problems. Let other countries worry and take cate of themselves.

Reports: Nine Civilians Slain in US Drone Strike Against Somalia

Terrified Residents Report Missile Strikes in Key Southern Port

by Jason Ditz, September 16, 2011

The US began launching drone strikes against targets within Somalia in late June, the latest in a growing number of nations which now have constant US UAVs flying overhead, launching attacks with no real oversight against whoever they believe needs killing at any given time.

The U.S. and U.N. in Somalia: Show Transcript

I think we should stay out of Somalia and mind our own business.
I think we should remember what happened the last time we went to "help" Somalia.
I think our memories are short and we should watch Black Hawk Down and remind ourselves this was based on real events.

No! Don't spend any of your money. But you can tell them you'll pray for them, because prayer always works.
