Perry comes off as a snake because he took the money used it to cover his shortfalls and then criticised Obama for giving out the money, it doesn't get much lower or dishonest than that.

"Gov. (Rick) Perry helped balance his budget with about $6 billion worth of federal help, which he happily took, and then started blaming the members of Congress who had offered that help."

Back to the stimulus: On Feb. 18, 2009, the same day Perry accepted the federal funds, the governor slammed the legislation as being "full of pork and special interest handouts." On his campaign website, Perry wrote: "The Democrats think this bill will change our country's financial fortunes, but you and I know better. … This administration is saddling future generations with an increasingly unbearable debt." He then urged readers to sign an online petition telling "Washington" that they are "fed up with bailouts."

"..However, the stimulus aid let legislators put an additional $6.4 billion toward programs, primarily Medicaid and education, historically financed with general revenue, according to a July 2009 House Research Organization report. Another $5.7 billion in stimulus money went to programs such as highway and bridge construction, child care development programs and weatherization assistance.."

"..Counting all funding sources, including the $12.1 billion in stimulus aid, the 2010-11 state budget totaled $182 billion.

So, Obama’s dollar figure holds up.."

Rick Perry...what a stand up guy..
I wonder what you would say if you knew anything about Governor Brownback, I don't like him, turning back over $31 million from Obama that was meant to help the state set up their health insurance net so people could handle Obamacare. I say "GOOD ON YOU SAM" and I am sure you would say he was wrong. I always wondered how they would pay for all those insurance nets and we have found out.

Alaska has a better job market than Texas. That's all I need to know that Texas really sucks big time.

You don't understand this chart. Each state is measured upon its own resources and population. Ughhhhhhhhhhh. For Texas's size and resources it's doing foul and putrid.

And you are gullible enough to believe what the government puts out in its propaganda.

Speaking of undercover propaganda; don't you work for the governor's office or its public relations firm?

Stop saying bad criticisms of Texas; it's a perfect paradise without a single problem.

Remember, before Proposition 187, California was not a blue state. Conservatives like to blame wealthy white limo type liberals for turning California blue, but conservatives who know better realize it was the alienation of Hispanics by Republicans in California.

Don't underestimate the amount of people who are willing to vote against social conservatism even if it means taxes will get up. Right now, all you have running against Obama is social conservatism. I suppose you could argue Romney isn't a social conservative, but he is a Mormon.

Finally, why do Republicans believe they have a shot at Obama when they are even less popular than he is?

It's pretty obvious that Republican shills trained in public relations methods are astroturfing (to create a political bias) and spouting off red herrings to deflect from the truth that Texas is a reprehensible trash pit when it comes to the job market.

The information in the link has not been debunked but has certainly been decried as an epic fail. In what way? The population increase in Texas has exceeded its job growth. If Texas were in the middle of the states it would mean its job creation matches its population increase. That would be something to celebrate in the middle of a recession. However, Texas is LAST in that regard. Is it a question of Texas being overwhelmed by growth or simply bad at creating jobs for its people? The other facts about the high levels of poverty there and the prevalence of minimum wage jobs are not encouraging.

Why the hell do you conservatives so readily turn to insults? And from an opening post that had no discernible political bias, or is the finding of a contrary analysis not something worth discussing?

Does anyone else seem to notice that this report is simply useless. In fact, it ranks Michigan in first place. Does that mean we should move to Michigan? The Michigan with the sixth highest unemployment rate in the entire country. Michigan, the state that has lost about 300,000 people since the recession began(and its population has contracted .6% since 2000). While Texas' population has grown by about 4.3 million(20.6%) since 2000.

So what caused Michigan to rank so highly based on this list, when everyone knows that Michigan is a total craphole?

If Texas really has such a horrible job creation record, then why is Texas the state that had the largest population increase since 2000. And the 5th fastest growing state(as a percentage) in the country since 2000?

This report reminds me of Mark Twain's famous saying about "lies, damn lies, and statistics". And this statistic is completely useless.

You should really try to get up to speed before the childish rants.

From Laura c on another post, ""The largest over-the-month increase in employment occurred in New York (+29,400), followed by Texas (+29,300), Michigan (+23,000), and Tennessee (+14,300). The largest over-the-year percentage increase occurred in North Dakota (+5.2 percent), followed by Texas (+2.6 percent), Utah (+2.5 percent), and Oklahoma and Wyoming (+2.2 percent each)."

Released today 8/19/2011 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
