That could be true or false depending on what you mean by "true sexual offenders." But as to sexual offenders in general, that is absolutely false, and I've linked to one excellent article on the subject and could find many more.
I've done searches in my area and found plenty of sex offenders (like that everywhere really.) Some had really disgusting charges, while others were 19 who had sex with a 16 yr old. Not the same thing IMO.
Children are victims in the production of child pornography. To say they are victims of those who merely view it strikes me as a fanatical absurdity, albeit an absurdity everyone is expected to go along with.
Such fanaticism reached its logical conclusion about 5 years ago when a teenage girl in Pennsylvania was charged with child pornography for posting lewd photos of herself. (So she's a perpetrator, but if anyone views those same photos she's a victim. Am I the only one who sees that something is a little screwy here?)
The argument has been made that viewing images of the Holocaust would be doing the same if done by those that agree with the sentiment. A person fascinated by bank robberies views videos of a robbery in progress, it could be seen as the same as looking at second hand child pornography. Both are felonies, the first being one of the most horrid events in history. There are documented cased of people masturbating to pictures of Holocaust victims, and as disturbing that is, it isn't illegal.
My boyfriend will not allow that sort of talk around him, though, as it might be seen as justification of his offense. He simply says that no matter the case, he broke the law through sexual deviancy and he needs the help he is getting.
To say that all pedophiles are "baby-eating-monsters-from-outer-space"... should not be allowed a normal life because of his thoughts.
Because he has committed, and apparently been convicted of some act (you don't say what) that has resulted in him being a registered SO, his thoughts turned into action at some point and there was a living, breathing victim involved.
Your own quotes sum up well the situation. Yes, as the parent of a young child, I would like to see him either eliminated or put into a prison deep and dark where others could prey upon him just as in his head he desires to prey upon children like mine. The light of day should not be sullied by shining upon him ever again. Keep him away forever from our children and being incarcerated will keep him safe from protective parents should, or when, he acts on his inhuman thoughts again.

I agree with the argument set forth in the first paragraph, and while your bf needs to do what's right for him, it's not right for him to take on the sins of the world, so to speak. He should deal with his shortcomings as they are, not minimize them or amplify them.

I'm a parent and I find sentiments like yours much more vile and contemptible than I find human beings like the OP's boyfriend.

Did he turn himself in or get caught? Was it his conscience that did him in? Or did he have to be reminded it was wrong by the authorities? If he was caught, how?
