Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin should run for president next year, current President Dmitry Medvedev has said.

He made the announcement at the annual congress of the ruling United Russia party.

There have been months of speculation about which man would stand as candidate for the post.

Mr Putin had already served two terms as president before Mr Medvedev took over in 2008.
BBC News - Russia's Putin set to return as president in 2012

Now I know Russian's like despots. But really?

This should be interesting. China and Russia have been cozying up to each other with plans.
Maybe this will give a push to get rid of the USD as reserve currency.

I live in Russia. Most people I know say they would not vote for Putin. I also think that it is time to give place to another. But on television in Russia reported that the majority supports Putin.

Excellent!

Putin becomes the sole ruler of Russia, we spend more on military hardware, Russia spends more on military hardware, more jobs are created in both countries, unemployment goes down...

Win-win situation

Dmitry Medvedev is a man of his word who kept his promise to Vladimir Putin . Putin elevated Dmitry from obscurity to the Kremlin and Dmitry for his service will head the United Russia Party Duma list in the upcoming national elections as such he can either be the new Prime Minister or the Speaker of the Duma. Either position gives Dmitry a job, a good salary and respect as a senior Kremlin leader. Putin is a good judge of who to place his trust. Putin is as good as his aging ailing predecessor Boris Yeltsin.
