Why are you making a big deal of this? I like grape soda, too, and I love me some fried chicken. My husband loves his watermelon.

Guess what...we're WHITE.

Guess what? Ignorant stereotypes about said food items are not made at your expense, they're made at my expense. I've heard more than enough racist jokes aimed at myself to recognize one when I see one. I'm merely calling a spade a spade... do you think it would have been so innocent if grape soda was substituted for Jarritos? Or do you seriously believe that there was no way whatsoever the intent just might have been to make the joke that Obama wouldn't have passed this because he's black? Never mind... some people here believe that any accusation of racism is always made at the expense of their political beliefs, whether it actually had anything whatsoever to do with them or not.

Nope, but I've heard racist stereotypes from the mouths of people who probably use stormfront regularly, and they were uttering them at me. Grape soda is a favorite...

I have no idea what Jarritos is.

Nobody made any kind of racial comment on this thread until you jumped in. Go back and reread, look at the reaction you got when you made your first comment. Nobody knew what you were talking about. You are being hypersensitive.

I don't honestly know what you're talking about, nobody said anything about Obama being black, or made any kind of comment about him at all. Just that it's quite ironic that his administration will not allow soda to be discontinued from the food stamp approval list given the administration's supposed war on obesity.

The comment was about rioting b/c soda is being taken away from food stamp recipients. The poster just happened to say "grape" in front of "soda" and now it's all of a sudden a racist comment.

Please stop with this line of thinking, you're not making any sense and you're really making yourself look bad by making these kinds of assumptions.

Back on topic.

Yes, I noticed that everybody but the person who actually made the comment replied. The ones who seem hypersensitive and hyper defensive are those of you who blindly defend other posters the moment they're accused of making a racist comment.

Do you know what the phrase "read between the lines" means? If he just meant soda, why did he/she specifically say "grape soda"? You've yet to explain that. You actually believe the poster just "happened" to add the word grape in? Seriously?

I'm making perfect sense. Grape soda is often used as a pejorative against black people depending on the context, and in the context of his/her post it's pretty obvious. Not that it surprises me that it would fly over your head, but you're not a member of the group the joke is targeted at.

And Jarritos is a Mexican-made soda that is extremely popular in Mexico and predominantly Mexican areas of the US.

How am I or any of the other posters here hypersensitive just b/c we call you out on your race card playing? Nobody is blindly defending anything, we all saw what was said and we all know that nothing was meant by it...except you.

Reading between the lines, huh? There's a fine line between that and tinfoil hat territory.

He probably said grape soda b/c it's funnier that way. The whole thing was just a joke.

The context was about taking away soda from the food stamp list in NYC. It's not about black people in any way. Unless you want to say it's about black people b/c Obama was mentioned....

So what does Jarritos have to do with anything? I think that makes you a racist just for bringing it up. Mind you, I'm not Mexican, I'm Cuban.
