If a cellphone company wants to put a tower on your property, you don't think the government should be involved. I disagree 100%. I support regulation because it keeps people from doing what very easily could be very stupid things. You don't build a slaughterhouse behind an elementary school. You don't put a 4 story house in front of another house that enjoys a view. You don't bury toxic waste in swamps. You don't play loud music at night and you don't get to beat your family just because you own the property and it's your house. Or you CAN do these things and be a huge middle finger to the rest of the world. But go ahead and scream about losing your freedoms and how the government is overstepping its bounds. So freaking what. The only freedom you're losing is the freedom to be destructive. In this case, many people feel cellphone towers are dangerous, as dangerous as overhead powerlines. What if the tower is built shoddily, will you accept the responsibility of it falling over and, oh, I don't know, setting the neighborhood on fire? Instead of viewing the government as the bad guy, view it as the collective of all of us ensuring we don't create a society that's not fit to live in. Try as hard as you freaking can, you will never live in a vacuum.

All the things you mention affect the rights of other people. A slaughter house emits smells that affect the school. Toxic waste effects the health and welfare of those who live nearby and the water table. Noise effects the rights of others to quiet enjoyment of their property. The fact is that a cell phone tower might not look attractive but is not a threat to safety or health. What people "believe" has no bearing. Only the facts do. Electric transmission towers are not exactly attractive either but the power company is granted absolute power as to where they will be placed and given the right of eminent domain to purchase and condemn property to place transmission towers and sub stations where they deem best regardless of what people think.
