No replies? It would appear that most here agree with you.

I can't comment on whether or not the alphabet networks are biased since I haven't had any of them in my house in more years than some C-D posters have been alive.

Oddly, given that FOX is the only non-liberal television outlet, the libs would love to have that station banned such that there would no voice of opposition whatsoever.

First if anyone cannot see a Liberal slant in ABC, CBS (Except 60 minutes), NBC (except Meet the Press) than something is wrong with them.
Conversely if ppl cannot see the overwhelming Conservative slant on Fox News than you're even crazier.

So this report isn't surprising.

But I think it is a little misleading IMO. No one uses the word liberal as much when even describing themselves. The term liberal has been almost converted into an insult than simply describing ones political side.

Saying someone is a Conservative in itself is not an insult, Conservatives proudly call themselves Conservatives.
Even left wing nuts do not like to call themselves Liberal anymore. Because of the negative perception that the term Liberal has turned into.

So IMO this is not a fair criticism.

That's what some liberals claim; but, the real reason that liberals are not reported as liberals is that the media are liberals themselves and see other liberals as center-of-the-road mainstream.

Excellent post and spot on. The right wingers resort to simple catch words like "the liberals" to just pass blame and not intelligently discuss an issue. They will just spout "the liberals did it!" "blame liberals! rabble rabble rabble!" People like Beck have added even more of these simple catch words like "marxist" "socialist" and other scary sounding words to spew, which they commonly do.

Otherwise the topic's source is a far right wing hack site. Using a heavily biased site to complain about bias is complete hypocrisy.

To further my point, I remember a Gallop poll out either last year or the year before. Where only something like 15% of Americans defined themselves as Liberal, but close to 50% of Americans defined themselves as Conservatives.

Even though in America there is a near split between Democrats and Republicans (40%-40%) 20% being independents.

Why do Democrats not define themselves as liberal? (but Republicans typically define themselves as Conservatives).

Again IMO its because of the negative connotation that the term Liberal has turned into.

As Walter Greenspan says Liberal is seen by moderate to them.

Too bad for themselves they gave the term "liberal" a bad name.
They stole it and, again as ever, changed it's meaning anyway.

You make a great point as well Tempest. Has anyone ever heard Ann Coulter speak or listen to her in interviews (not to mention read her books). She can't go a full sentence without demeaning liberals in some way (even if its irrelevant to the topic at hand).

Rush, Glenn Beck, Hannity all do this as well.

First, I think that most people are aware that there is a liberal slant in the media via ABC, NBC and CBS as well as with certain newspapers like The New York Times.

That liberal slant is balanced by the conservative slant of certain networks and other media outlets, including the overwhelming conservatism of talk radio.

This study seems to be involved in its own bias, by restricting its subjects to ABC, NBC and CBS without examining other media outlets. The growth of cable and of the internet have made the three major outlets increasingly irrelevant in terms of forming public opinion.

No one wants FOX banned, but there are some who would like FOX to have a commitment to higher journalistic standards than it currently does. Even if FOX went away, talk radio is still so overwhelmingly conservative in content that it is a standing bulwark to the media as a whole being always biased towards liberals.
