China has officially put the United States on notice that Washington’s planned attack on Pakistan will be interpreted as an act of aggression against Beijing. This blunt warning represents the first known strategic ultimatum received by the United States in half a century, going back to Soviet warnings during the Berlin crisis of 1958-1961, and indicates the grave danger of general war growing out of the US-Pakistan confrontation.

Henry Kissinger's duplicity to the press and toward the Indians vis-à-vis the Chinese. In July of 1971, while Kissinger was in India, he told Indian officials that "under any conceivable circumstance the U.S. would back India against any Chinese pressures." In that same July meeting Kissinger said, "In any dialogue with China, we would of course not encourage her against India." However, near the end of the India-Pakistan war, in a highly secret 12/10/1971 meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to the UN Huang Ha, Kissinger did exactly this encouraging the PRC to engage in the equivalent of military action against the Indians. [Documents 14-15, 30-32]

That was the closest the world ever came to WW III. The Soviets would have sided with India, and a hail of anti-ship missiles from 2 Soviet surface groups, 2 Soviet missile boats and 168 Bear bombers would have sank the USS Enterprise, the USS Tripoli and most of Task Force 74 in less the 12 minutes.

Yes, China can roll into Pakistan easily. The US would not fare well as it has no units to deploy and would have to rely on Nasty Guard units and given their 40% casualty rates in Iraq and Afghanistan, it would be over quickly (and mercifully for the US).
