Is it just a rumor that the Obama's have taken lavish vacations to Hawaii, Spain and Martha's Vineyard and that the president plays golf several times a week?
And all of this "information" is coming from "the source" and people actually believe it.
No proof, no receipts, no corroboration, no witnesses, no taped interviews, just "the source".

White House sources reported: 'Michelle also enjoys drinking expensive booze during her trips. She favours martinis with top-shelf vodka and has a taste for rich sparking wines.
'The vacations are totally Michelle's idea. She's like a junkie. She can't schedule enough getaways, and she lives from one to the next - all the while sticking it to hardworking Americans.'
I bet the credible sources at the White House could reveal a lot more....
I did not and would not ever vote for Obama.
I do not put much credibility in anything the article purports to be fact.
On to the fantasy of a rational discussion.
If we assume the data in the article is correct, then I feel pressed to point out that 99% of the money they cite is not spent by the Obamas, but is spent by the government on requirements of the office. The protection details, the escorts, the home rentals and such. The article even admits that the first lady spent personal money on the clothing and hotel stays. Only those events where the President was along was public money spent on the housing.
Granted you and I could do these trips cheaper, but we are not required to lease an entire floor or estate when vacationing. We are not obligated to have 45 body guards along on our trips. These things make traveling expensive and are outside the control of the Obamas. Jimmy Carter incurs these same expenses when he travels, but to a lesser degree I am sure, as do the Bushes, Clintons, Gores and anyone else associated with the office of President or Vice President.
Sure there could be better planning on transportation to cut a few corners, but then again how much room does a helicopter have for 6 travelers and 100 support staff? Maybe they did need two.
I'm not as quick to discount the Enquirer as you are. They've proven their value several times over recent years. Besides, my post has less to do with the source and more to do with how often the article may be picked up in other international markets. Re-read.
I read your post. Which said that the story originated in the "international market". But it didn't. If you think the Enquirer is a reliable news source, that's your business. Clearly some do. But the credibility of an article really has nothing to do with how often it gets picked up by any news organization, but might have something to do with WHO picks it up. The Enquirer, really?

Are the vacations lavish by Presidential standards?
It stands to reason that the President and his wife are going to stay in higher-end establishments. For one thing, higher-end establishments already provide some level of security. And security is an important consideration.
Also, I know many men in upper-level management who play golf several times a week. They swear they are working while they golf, be it they are doing a sales pitch, or negotiating a deal, or simply schmoozing a client. I suspect that when Obama is playing golf with Boehner, that business is being discussed.

Why do you bother? Because Lord knows, if this ended up proven without a doubt to be true, you would just go from "denial" to "defense". Just say it, YOU DONT CARE EVEN IF IT'S TRUE.
What we do not understand..why the Obama's never want to vacation at their "lovely" home in Chicago..or at Camp David.
Many presidents vacationed at their homes...why not the Obama's. Why all the expensive taxpayer paid junkets.
It is like the Obama's do not have roots.
