Allegedly 15 people were arrested for rioting at Rye Playland when a group of Muslim women were told they would have to remove their hijab for safety reasons if they wished to go on a particular ride.

New York City residents charged over fight at Rye Playland over Muslim headgear | 7online.com

I've heard about Muslims celebrating the end of Ramadan at amusement parks in the past, but never anything like this blow up. It's very sad.

I can understand that safety issues especially with all of the laws in NY -- it's a real nanny state when it comes to safety laws. Allegedly the park operators communicated the safety issues to the tour operator through whom the Muslim group booked the tour. The park was even refunding money to those who couldn't enjoy the ride because removing their hijab would compromise their beliefs.

It is sad that their celebration had to end so badly.

Rye Playland did the correct thing. If the headgear poses threats to the safety of the riders, then they should not be allowed. Rye Playland offered refunds to any of the people who refused to remove their hijabs, so there is no reason why this incident needed to happen. Perfect example of muslims wanting the rules to be bent to suit their ideological desires.

Sigh. CAIR talking points down pat. I hope the Muslims do boycott Playland, it will make it nicer for everyone else.

What those Muslims should do is open their own Playland, and institute a prohibition against anyone who doesn't wear the prescribed headgear.

The ban was implemented four years ago. Why hasn't this happened before?
If they were Amish or Mennonites would the ban have been enforced?

The authority would close it down after a few accidents involving headgear getting caught on ride parts causing injuries.

It would. Why wouldn't it? Why would they risk getting more accidents?
