It matters not.
Stopping a heartbeat is stopping a heartbeat.

Quite a few of those little heartbeats belong to females
so I never understand the "you're trampling on women's rights!! OMG!!"
thing.

No, YOU are.
By killing them.
There is no hearbeat before 6 weeks. Prior to that time, it is just a bunch of cells. A heart is also nothing more than a muscle. There is no brain or sensory organs when the heartbeat develops. It's not a baby if it doesn't have a functioning brain.

Sit down drama queen..

I certainly think the law was unconstitutional, it certainly is no more horrifying than Abortion itself.

In my humble opinion, this is the crux of the issue:

1) Like it or not, abortion is legal in the U.S.
2) Laws designed to throw stumbling blocks in the way of those trying to receive abortions are thinly veiled attempts to stop legal abortions.
3) Courts see through the thinly veiled attempts and strike down those laws.

What I find especially hypocritical is that these laws are being passed by very conservative legislatures, who frequently rail against "big government." But I guess it's ok for them to use big government.

This post and the others like it do not change what abortion really is,
no matter how much you beat your chest and proclaim your "open-mindedness"
and congratulate yourself on your progressive nature.

"First they came for the communists
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me."

You mean what abortion is to YOU. Why should anyone do what YOU deem is right? Why can't a person choose what is best for THEM since YOU are not the one who has give birth?? Not everyone agrees with what YOU think life is...

Why is it so difficult for some people to understand that a person can be personally against abortion and believe it to be abhorrent and awful, and at the same time hold the belief that it is not their prerogative to use the apparatus of the state to impose this belief on other people?

Perry supported it. That's the extent of his involvement. But that support has no bearing on the merits of the law.

So, is this a Perry thread or an abortion thread?
So he can take credit for Texas economy, which he had little to do with, but for laws he signed he takes no credit at all. Wow, funny how that works.

Why is it so difficult for some people to accept that when life has begun,
no one has the right to end it?

Because there is legitimate debate about when "life" begins or what that really means regarding sentience.

I think Roe was correctly decided, even though I am personally against abortion.

As in wars?

As in capital punishment?

Why is it so hard for you to understand that an abortion isn't ending a "life". "Life " hasn't started yet.

Why can't you understand that abortion in some form or other has been around since humans have been around....

1. making it illegal does not stop it

2. making it illegal does kill people.
