I read an article in one of the national magazines last week that asked an interesting question:

Assume that abortion is outlawed tomorrow.

To those who support the outlawing of abortions because it's murder, what punishment should American women who get an abortion in this country or another receive after the act of receiving or aiding in receiving an abortion is made criminal?

If you believe that abortion is the same as killing a born baby (murder), then one would assume that they should get the same punishment, such as life imprisonment or the death penalty for getting an abortion.

Same thing if they run off to Canada to get an abortion. Killing your unborn baby there is still murder, no?

So, what punishment SHOULD women get? If they don't get as much as a person who kills an already-born human, wouldn't that necessarily mean that you don't think the unborn child is "worth" as much as an after-born child?

At least this part is a no brainer. If they left the country and did it somewhere it was legal, it would be impossible to prosecute them in an American court. Just like if I robbed a bank in Mexico and was caught in America, I could not be tried in an American court, but rather sent to Mexico for trial at the most. I would face their penalties, not America's.

Skipping around the bush is what most posters will do on this question.

I've wondered this myself. Because many consider abortion an act of murder will they demand that those involved in the "murder" should get life in prison or the death penalty? Or, maybe like in the good ole days, stoning to death or burning at the stake?

What if the woman accidentally falls down forward on her stomach, thereby fatally injuring the fetus? That's what some women used to do when abortion was illegal. If women want to abort, they're going to find a way to do it. The government shouldn't force a woman to carry a fetus to term. The fetus has no rights until it is born and is viable separate from the mother.

I think whoever would be guilty should have half of their herd of sheep taken by Pharaoh, their first born son should be sacrificed as a burnt offering, and the criminal themself must be flogged in the town square and then stoned to death.

/sarcasm/

I would make them watch 100 abortions up front and close, at various stages, and see if they still think abortion should be used as birth control.

Would that be before or after you supplied unbiased, factual data that showed it was being used as birth control?

How about this. I would make them watch 100 abortions up front and close, at various stages. That should not bother anyone that is pro-abortion.......since there is nothing wrong with it, right?
