Try this 2006 AP article:

Houston suburb angry over mosque plan - US news - Life | NBC News

"The dispute began when the group asked Baker to remove his cattle from their newly bought land. Baker agreed but mistakenly thought the Muslims also wanted him off the land his family has lived on for more than 100 years. The rumor spread."

"Though he now concedes the Muslims are probably not after his land, Baker said he is obligated to go through with the pig races, probably within the next few weeks, because 'I would be like a total idiot if I didn’t. I’d be the laughingstock now because I’ve gone too far.'”

"A plan to build a mosque in this Houston suburb has triggered a neighborhood dispute, with community members warning the place will become a terrorist hotbed and one man threatening to hold pig races on Fridays just to offend the Muslims ... A committee has formed to buy another property and offer to trade it for the Muslims’ land."

"One resident has set up an anti-Islamic Web site with an odometer-like counter that keeps track of terrorist attacks since Sept. 11 ... Besides keeping track of the running total of post-Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Web site provides home addresses of some association members and advises people who see anything suspicious to contact the FBI."

"The dispute began when the group asked Baker to remove his cattle from their newly bought land. Baker agreed but mistakenly thought the Muslims also wanted him off the land his family has lived on for more than 100 years"

I knew the OP's link was garbage. Your link explains it much better. The farmer STARTED this conflict with these people, just as i suspected. Just another knuckledragging, loudmouthed bigot looking for trouble with someone that wasn't bothering him.

This tells you all you need to know:

Baker, who makes marble and granite fixtures for kitchens and bathrooms and also owns livestock, said he got so mad he put up a sign announcing the pig races.
Baker’s attempt to offend missed its mark, according to Fotouh. Muslims do not hate pigs, he said; they just don’t eat them.
Yeah...it's all the Muslim's fault.

They "didn't expect" active and vocal opposition from the neighbors???

The man is lying.

They expected it, and fully intended to trigger it.

Should have been careful what they wished for.

They should place this muslim under 24 hour armed drone surveillance, once he finds out that he cant shove the Quran around in anyone's face to make them do his will, he might resort to violence.
You really should read the AP article...

Typical right winger. Again for the umpteenth time:

I guess they thought the First Amendment extended to them. Silly Muslims.

They bought the damn land. Why should they have expected ANY opposition from their neighbors at all?

The pig races were a nice touch - a way of saying that the Muslims could NOT use their "freedom of religion" right., to violate his previously-existing property right, and he didn't care if they were unhappy with that fact.... and that he resented their obvious attempt to force him to change his ways for no good reason.

If their religion said that pigs were forbidden, what about the Texan's religion that said pigs were just fine? Doesn't HE get to observe his religion too? And more so, since he was there first?

If the Muslims knew in advance there would be a "religious conflict", why did they buy that particular land at all? Because they felt they could strong-arm the guy our of there? News flash: They can't. So now they've learned something. Deal with it.

Sounds like they've reached an accomodation. Pig races are stopped, but the pig farm is still there, and the Muslims are holding their own religious ceremonies, which they brought in after they bought the land, just fine without bothering anybody.
