Explain this to me.

How can conservatives be against abortion as a practical matter?

The vast majority of abortions occur from individuals who can't afford kids.

Taking away the ability for these people to secure abortions means more people on welfare.

The same people against abortion are usually against most forms of welfare.

So what should these people do, aside from not having kids (which we all know abstinence education doesn't work)?

Plus, the most conservative states have the highest rates of unwed pregnancies (doesn't necessary mean most unwanted), the most poverty, and the most welfare.

When you stop supporting the basic needs of individuals (food, clothes, shelter), people will become desperate and start rioting (see Middle East).

I guess they don't think killing children is a good way to reduce welfare, and so they look for other policy alternatives.

Ahhh, the old "let the lazy, stupid masses, of the lower classes, reduce their own population for the good of the country" trick eh?

"But would it not make more sense to fatten up the little children and feed them to the rich land owners"? argued Mr. Swift.

Why stop with the unborn, if abortion is such a great tool for population control and fiscal matters, lets go all the way up to 5 year old children. We could end a lot of wasted federal dollars on children that the parents don't even want.

At which point do moral and ethical considerations for the lives of innocent children come into play, when trying to solve fiscal, political and social issues?
