Mike Lofgren, a 28 year congressional staff member, and 16 of those years on the Republican side. This is what he has to say about the current state of politics, especially the Republicans as they are today.

This is a long essasy relative to the short newspaper opines, but everyone shoudl read it. It doesn't matter whether you're a dem or repub.

So you didn't even read it past the first two sentences else you wouldn't ask that.

From the link in the OP...

It should have been evident to clear-eyed observers that the Republican Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult, or one of the intensely ideological authoritarian parties of 20th century Europe. This trend has several implications, none of them pleasant.

I have said this in other posts. An oath to Grover Norquist??? A pledge to ban gay marriage???

It is a cult!

And yet, the dems are going to be slaughtered in 2012 by the cultish republican party. Deal with it.

The libs are already getting the anger machine geared up after the loss of the white house and senate in 2012.

Libs are alot happier when they have something to complain about. So it will be a win-win situation, in which the nation gets some direction toward fiscal responsibility and the libs can be happy again while protesting and complaining.

The Democratic party is as full of lunacy as the Republican party. It does not take an expert to see that. To call the Republican party a "cult" is just ridiculous. Why are liberals so blind to the lunacy of their own party??

What an oxymoron from a moronic piece of oxy.

A cultist group of people who preach self-determination, limited government and limited regulations.

How stupid can you be to believe that?

The real cult is the populist socialist mindless drones pushing for 75,000 more pages in the federal register because the first 75,000 just isn't enough.

Nothing says cult like mindless drones repeating their slave master's talking points.
