Not what I said, but good try. I never mentioned minimum wage.

If your salary goes up, and inflation goes up at a higher rate, then clearly you cant buy as much as you could in the past.

Not all lawyers are highly compensated only those few lucky ones who become a partner in a lucrative law firm make the big bucks. If you don't you will be lucky to pull minimum wage as a legal assistant. In Manhattan a non-partner's compensation might be enough to afford the rent in the Bronx, Washington Heights or Jamaica Queens. Also it is a non-hourly position so you work the hours needed to generate the paperwork a partner or a partner track lawyer in the firm asks you too. Law school graduates are a dime a dozen.

Customer service has gotten worse due to cut-backs and lay-offs and "cost-saving measures."...Each employee is asked to do the job of one or more former employees...Everyone is "spread thin" these days and under a lot of stress...But what can they do? Jobs are hard to come by today and the job market looks bleak! Everyone can't afford to re-train and go back to school right now. And even if they did go back to school will there be decent paying jobs waiting for them in their new field? Or will they lose out to applicants with lots of prior experience?....People aren't "machines" or "robots" who can juggle "twenty jobs at once" without showing some "wear and tear." When I go into stores and restaurants it's plain to see that staff has been cut way back. This is not the fault of the employees and most people do the best job they can with a "skelton crew."
