I hear attacks from conservatives, and some liberals, but mostly conservatives about the deficit committee. If the committee was able to go past the 1.5 trillion in deficit cutting they are suppose to get and lets say they strike a grand bargain that comes up with 4 trillion in deficit reductions, would conservatives support the package? I ask that because it would allow Obama to campaign on cutting the deficit and would likely result in the USA getting a credit upgrade. Would conservatives support a win for the USA if it means that Obama can claim a win on deficit reduction?

I haven't heard anyone but lefties attack the committee, mainly due to the people who were appointed to it.

Probably not. It's gotta be bigger than that. And unlike most conservatives, I'm actually in favor of cutting in military expenses.

The deficit Obama inherited was already a trillion dollar deficit. When that many people lose their jobs, the government loses tax revenue and then spends on programs to help those affected by the recession Obama inherited.

Gringrich and other Republicans were railing against it at the last GOP debate.

I sure with Obama had inherited a back bone at some point because during the election he didn't harp on all the bad stuff he was going to inherit, only on everything he would fix. He's fixed nothing but his supporters are now crying about what he inherited. If he didn't want to deal with the country's problems why did he run for POTUS?

Of course not. The republicans will oppose any action taken by political consensus that will assist the nation out of the current crisis we as a nation are in. Any improvement in the lot of the american public weakens the republican arguement. They will throw the baby out with the bathwater. They will literally destroy the country to achieve power and create a totalitarian state. Their rejection of the 4 billion in deficit reduction proposed by Obama demonstrated this.

In a deep recession, cutting help to those who lost their job will make the recession worse. The deficit isn't the cause of our bad economy, it is a result.

Your thread title is asking about Conservatives, not Republicans.
