Yeah, that made me think of this urban legend I heard recently about conservative PACs and think-tanks.

I heard they hire people to sit in rooms and bombard the internet with their talking points. They have this going in two shifts a day according to the legend.

I had a friend who got his M.A. recently and couldn't find work in his field, of course. Anyway, he told some colleagues of ours that he worked for two days for a conservative think-tank down here. All he had to do all day long was blog on the internet -- in his own words -- about how health care reform was a joke and how great Bobby Jindal is (and a whole host of GOP politicos on the national level) and how the federal government was going to come rape your daughter or send a couple of "minorities" to do it.

According to this guy, he said that there was a whole room, set up like a computer lab, and they had these sheets of information -- talking points. And their bosses directed their staff, some 50 people in a room, running at two shifts a day, crawl all over blog sites, newspaper response forms, message boards, facebook and twitter, and all other kind of social media spewing out GOP propaganda. It paid $10/hr. He quit after he got an adjunct position at a nearby community college.

This is just legend...I doubt the veracity of this guy's claims...but it makes me wonder.

Well then, what does he have to do with the thread topic then?

What are some interest groups that influence higher ed? I'd like to know some examples. I provided some that aid my university. I'd like to hear of others out there -- particularly left-leaning organizations that so many on this thread have pointed to (without specifics) -- that apparently influence higher ed.

I have no doubt that what you post is true. I also believe the same things is going on with the left.

If you think otherwise you are very naive.

*shrugs*

Much like the ACLU, or any other organization out there, you learn to take the good with the bad.

Talking points bcs all they can do is regurgitate, not analyze. There are people who get paid a pittance to do it, imo...lol...kinda like palins "people" on facebook....fortunately most academics and educated students see FB and mass media for what it is...trash.

C'mon, the left is too poor to make that happen! We're too poor because wealthy fat cats like you won't pay a decent wage!

I hope you know I'm joking.

See, I had to put the emoticon in there to indicate a joke. That's how it's done, right?
