I think it was a very effective speech. There were 2 parts that rang out to me...how some members of Congress are fine with riding this out until the next election in 14 months. With all this campaigning already going on, we forget how far away it really is. For these members to shy away from their responsibilities for 14 months would be criminal. The other part that resonated with me how the pressure is on to create new jobs yet they can't agree on how to pay for it. We cannot do both. It's time to put the priority on getting people back to work and putting money back in the pockets of those that need it.

Paid for or not, that amounts to half a trillion that cannot be used to pay down the debt. I believe we would achieve better long term results using it for that since we apparently have it available to spend.

There was no plan to it. If this is such a big deal and it needs to be passed in hurry, why not lay out whatever the plan was right now. Why? Because he has no idea. This was just a save my butt political speech.

No, he just wants to over tax what he calls the "rich"...who in this economy really aren't all that rich anymore.

well at least obama addressed the welfare crowd and told them to get off their lazy butts and actually leave their hovels to do more than get on the free bus at election time to vote for him. they are our future lobster fishermen depend on foodstamp reciepiants to buy their products today as the middle class goes broke paying for their benifits.

Gee, that only leaves 13 trillion.

And that's just now.
It will have increased by about double by that time.

As usual this is going to detoriate into a real mess and carnival----after all we just had the comic debt ceiling fiasco so its time for a joyful rerun. After all its still repeat season, so line up the six shooters and get those slogans ready.

I dont know exactly how all the financing is going to shake out here-----thats why there is a key word in the American dictionary-----negotiation.

Both sides get your butts to the table and work out a deal that benefits struggling Americans get back to work-----they cant wait 18 more months and neither can this country.

Some prior posters said the American people dont want this approach------all I know that looking at a lot of recent polls the carnival has produced polls that reflect that 82% of Americans are fed up with Congress.

Firstly lets address the tax codes----they are a joke----they are all over the place and have needed reforming for many years.

Lets cut regulation on business and apply incentives to employers to hire people-----where this money is going to come from can come from that magic word-----serious, mature, and responsible negotiation.

Serious, mature and responsible negotiation isn't going to happen till the tool shed and his cronies are out of office, that is blatantly clear.
