CNN is reporting that "unpaid internship" programs for the long term unemployed could become a new option for employers.
What does that do for current employees of a company other than make it easy to replace them or limit their earnings with this new free labor? What am I missing here?

I put "package" there intentionally because I heard it said several times on CNBC and CNN today....just wanted to see if I was the only one that thought it was a bit odd to keep phrasing it that way.
