4. eliminate the income/payroll tax at switch to a consumption tax
This would be an unmitigated disaster, especially 2 and 3.

Proposals 1 and 4 would have surprising and unintended consequences.

I get the impression that you have absolutely no understanding of how economics actually works.

Majin, I want you to go buy a $100,000 car....and then I'm going to tell you insurance rates are, your APR and your payments AFTER you have lready bought it...

Would you actualy do that?
Obama and his group are doing just that every time they turn around. In his "request" that Congress do what he talked about them doing last evening he is telling them to spend the money and we will gladly repay it in 10 years. However, he never tells them which year he will begin paying the money back.

cut the overtime and similar excessive hours worked (by various measures NO ONE will like).
spread those hours among others qualified to do the work.
pay all of them more so they can afford to pay taxes too.

learn to accept that much of the remaining pool of unemployed...
simply aren't employable beyond the margins and edges.

maybe find something productive they can do with their time...
to warrant continuing to absorb the public services they'll continue to consume.

and don't get your panties in a wad when faced with such realities.
pull up your big girl panties and make it happen!

I'm not saying I necessarily agree with all aspects of the bill, but get it right.
Which taxes will be cut? I don't think Obama's speech writers were told that either.

huh????

the main problems of this ecomony are JOBS and the housing bubble/bust that broke the camels back

the socalled freetrade agreements have cost us JOBS

the high corporate tax (the usa has the HIGHEST in the WORLD) has cost us jobs

think of it this way:::if you can get a 20,000sf warehouse in Nassau county for 10k a month, or you could get a 30,000sf warehouse in Suffolk county for 7k a month. most likely you would go with Suffolk

well its the same when you are dealing with taxes...you go where its more affordable

as to #2 and #3
right now its CHEAPER for GE to make an alarm cclock in mexico and SHIP it back to the USA to sell it than to make it here...import tarriffs would make it MORE AFFORDABLE (less costly) to make it here than to have to IMPORT it into this country

and as far as #4
a majority of INCOME is never reported to begin with..taxing INCOME is jsust stupid...tax spending...think of that tax on a lexus the rich guy is buying

None of the above.

Here's what I would do:

Create a new federal agency designed to improve our infrastructure and develop renewable energy alternatives. Hire ~50,000 people to work for this new agency, doing everything from answering phones to conducting high-level scientific research.

Scrap "Obamacare," and replace it with a true single-payer universal healthcare system. Create a federal agency to handle administering the system -- hire thousands of workers for that.

Nationalize several of the largest U.S. banks, and return them to solvency. Hire more banking workers. Issue government-backed loans to small businesses through the new federally owned banks.

Expand hiring at all federal agencies. Reducing unemployment is more important than efficiency right now.

Pass a law making the offshoring of jobs by U.S. companies illegal.

Enact exorbitant tariffs on imported goods, making it more cost-effective to produce goods here.

Yes, and then that alarm clock that used to cost $17.99 will now cost $35.99. That would result in fewer clocks sold and fewer workers making clocks. So you would have a very rapid increase in cost of living.....
