One of the things that the Marine Corps taught me was to turn the other cheek in the face of ignorant statements. I am finding it difficult given some of the statements here on this thread.
Yes, we are a voluntary military force and voluntarily put ourselves in harm's way. Yes, it is a job with certain benefits from that job. None of this diminishes what our military do for our country and our citizens, even if there are those that are too blind with hate to see the benefit. Perhaps you served in the military and was not put in harm's way directly. Congratulations because many others were not that fortunate.
I served because I felt a need to serve my country honorably. I did not do so for a college education; I had one already. I did not do so for the "big" paycheck; it was not. I served because I understood that there is something bigger than myself and I wanted to do my part. My husband served because he understood there was something bigger than himself and he wanted to do his part.
Thank you to my fellow Marines and other military that served.
What do you benefit the nation? Not a darned thing.
Yeah, killing innocent people and pushing the US agenda is a lot bigger than any one of us.
No, I went in enlisted.
Why I joined is irrelevant.
Why anyone joins is irrelevant.
War is never the right answer.
People who choose to join do so for their personal reasons, just like any job one applies for.
I'm not proud of any profession, especially not the profession of the military.
But for the grace of God, ther'd gone I.
But, the day after I signed my enlistment papers with the Navy, Boeing came to town offering fantastic jobs for people like me. (Geometry, Algebra, Drafting)

I believe you have pride confused with respect.
You have no respect for anyones profession?
Then you must have no need of doctors and nurses, or engineers of any sort, architects, the list could go on forever of other peoples professions that you directly or indirectly benefit from.
Remember, no man is an island.
Thank you to all our brave men and women of the military!!
You fight for our freedoms, including the freedom of complete nimrods to act high and mighty,
as evident from this thread.
No matter, you have my respect and I salute you. =)

Pathetic drivel.
Why is it that so many Americans worship the military?
Our soldiers are not heroes, they are war criminals and should therefore
be demonized and shunned.
Worship? I worship God and that is all.
I respect our military and their bravery. They fight so that weasels can sit behind a keyboard
and bleat about how we should all hold hands with terrorists and cuddle up with them.
I don't agree with the war, but the military members did not create the war.
They are doing their jobs, and they have bigger stones than you, my friend.
