Did NASA Follow the Law in Not Selecting Houston to Display a Space Shuttle Orbiter? - Yahoo! News

A recent story by an ABC affiliate suggests there is growing evidence that NASA administrator Charles Bolden ignored the law when he chose cities where the space shuttle orbiters would be displayed.

Almost as disturbing, Bolden did not gather any data that supported his decision even according to the criteria he had selected, which is the amount of tourist traffic each venue chosen attracts.

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news%2Flocal&id=8342577

When the [site selection] process started, Mike Griffin was NASA's boss. He told us, "I'd have sent a shuttle to KSC [Florida], MSFC, and JSC [Houston]. In the absence of political considerations, it is not a difficult decision."

NASA's 2010 budget bill included language forcing the agency to award orbiters to cities that had "an historical relationship with... the space shuttle."

"It was definitely my decision," Bolden said.
He awarded the shuttles using a point system that gave no points for connection to space despite its inclusion in the [2010] law. But gave 20 percent of all points to international access -- meaning how many international tourists could see the shuttle. That's nowhere in the law.

I would think one here At KSC, One in DC and one on the intrepid is a perfect choice. where millions will see them and marvel at them.

I have no issue with Houston not getting one. it just isn't the tourist center the others are.

That may be your personal opinion, but international tourism (and I say international, because domestically Houston is in the top visited cities) was not supposed to be above all else according to the 2010 NASA budget bill. That would do things like put Las Vegas and Disneyland as frontrunners. The selection criteria were manipulated, the law was apparently ignored, and that is where the problem is coming in.

1. The mistake you, and others make, is calling righteous indignation "whining".
2. It's not that people are "still" upset, if you had bothered to read the articles you would see this is based upon new information and revelations.
