I've always wondered why right-wingers despise President Obama so much, when his policies are very clearly right-of-center. Despite the "D" next to his name, Obama is far from liberal. In fact, he is socially conservative and fiscally moderate, making him a center-right politician overall. Don't believe me? Well, let's take a look at some of his views and policies:

1) Obama has cut taxes more than Reagan. In addition to extending the Bush tax cuts, he also pushed through new tax cuts in 2009.

2) Obama is an ardent supporter of the death penalty. In fact, he was to extend it to include crimes other than premeditated murder. Sources: Abolish the Death Penalty: Barack Obama and the death penalty; http://www.boston.com/news/politics/...backs_dea.html

3) Obama broke international law to capture and kill Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, something even George W. Bush and John McCain said they were unwilling to do.

4) Obama has extended the Patriot Act and other post-9/11 security measures, despite his party's opposition to such procedures.

5) Despite his campaign promises and the opposition of many Democrats, Pres. Obama elected to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, even voting for a troop surge.

6) Barack Obama opposes gay marriage, and believes that marriage is between "one man and one woman."

7) Despite the constitutional law of separation of church and state, Obama had an evangelical Christian pastor give an explicitly Christian prayer at his inauguration (not that Christianity is conservative -- far from it -- but Republicans often use the faith as a political wedge).

I think people think Obama is liberal because of his party affiliation and the far, FAR right positions of people like Bush, Bachmann, Perry, et al. As modern-era (post WWII) presidents go, Obama is on the conservative side, and on the global scale, he falls well within right-wing political ideology. Europeans would consider Obama very conservative.

What happened here is that you guys slid the center too far left. Now even center-right (which is what America is) now looks like far far right compared to the center. BTW, Obama is NOT a Conservative. He is a damn Marxist/Progressive who wants to get re-elected to continue shoving things through that the people don't want.

Obama is a marxist. Just because he is unable to act that way does not make him a conservative. We have him in a box and will keep him there until the trash can be emptied in 2012.

Obama fails to respect the US Constitution. He bypasses the US Congress with regulation when he knows he cannot move his Socialist agenda through legislation. He has usurped power, started an illegal war in Libya, set up the structure for statist health care control over the people.

Obama is not Conservative no matter how much you try to perpetuate the myth.

Spot on. The right hates Obama because

A) He has a (D) next to his name, the extremists are taught to hate anyone that has that letter no matter what.

B) He's black, amplify the above times a billion

Obama is a center/right republican. The GOP/tea party have gone so far off the deep end to the extreme right they think anyone left of Mussolini is a liberal.

Marxist?! Are you kidding me? Obama is not even close to a Marxist. Even true socialists like Hugo Chavez (Pres. of Venezuela) are not Marxists.

This site explains Marxism. Very few politicians today hold these beliefs, certainly not Obama:

Honestly, Obama is far too conservative for me, and I don't even consider myself to be left-wing. My social views tend to fall in the center, while my economic views lean slightly left. I'll probably vote for Obama in 2012, but only because he's the lesser of two evils.

Oh, yes, he is. Unfortunately for him the Constitution gets in the way so he can't be like Hugo Chavez. FDR had a similar problem during his presidency.

You must be a really far out Lefty if this guy is too Conservative for you. BTW, Obama was brought up as a Marxist. He identifies as that, errr, I mean Progressive.

Then why did liberals elect him?
