Because rather than let it happen naturally over time, the US forced diversity to get there quicker.
Now you look at your co-worker and can wonder did they really "earn" that position or did they get there because the government deems them "special".

Forced diversity backfired big time. And you can thank our government policies for that.

Maybe some people were not willing to wait any longer, understandably so, if you had been at the receiving end of certain policies for centuries. And who says things would have changed voluntarily? Usually people don't change as long as they benefit from the status quo.

No, it's not that. Go read a recent thread here about the government cancelling contracts to companies if they don't hire more minorities.
Enough time has gone by where skill, not skin color or race should be more important. But that is not the case.

Like I said..forcing something can make it happen quicker but sometimes at a price. And we are paying that price.

I'm not at all sure of what this "price" is. The study's conclusions seem to be pretty obvious to me, and a basic glance at US history shows that we're, in many ways (though not all - Hispanics and especially Arabs have really been taking it on the chin lately) doing far better than we were even 15 years ago.

I'm also not sure of why we "should be" at the point where skin color doesn't matter in hiring. We always "should" have been at that point, but there's no real reason to expect that the advantages white skin receives in hiring would just somehow...vanish by now, and indeed the studies and data show that it hasn't.

Singapore and some other exotic places can do it, why can't the West?
Why do we have to learn to live with diversity? All I hear is diversity is great, multiculturalism is great but why do you believe it's great?

Compare the situations of what happened in New Orleans after Katrina and what happened in Japan after the quake and tsunami. I can't believe the Japanese were looting and shooting each other after the tsunami, oh wait, that didn't happen in Japan that happened in your "diverse" New Orleans.

I bet you're happy that this girl experienced "diversity." Girl, 15, 'raped at music festival' - *UK News - MSN News UK

You would certainly like this guy as the police chief in your town, he is so against racism that "as a white police chief, I wish we would only use force against white people, because it would erase that issue that's so hard to deal with and is so troubling for so many people."

The legacy of slavery will eventually kill this country. There is hate loose in our culture, masquerading as tolerance, which knows no bounds and will not be satisfied.

There was a chance for us at the Constitutional convention. We blew it. Now we`re finding out how much it really cost us...

Why don't they study the "why" instead. That would be more beneficial. Let's study the effects of our close minded culture.

Maybe by means of a social therapy so to speak, where people are allowed to discuss how they feel instead of being judged and forced to oppress it. Once people start to think about the way they feel and become aware of it, most will realize that there is no reasonable foundation for their feelings and gradually change.

Or maybe we could just do things like let people go where they want to go, do what they want to do, and associate with who they choose to. We could also let companies hire the best candidates for their needs. We could let police and fire departments hire and promote by merit. But oh, no!.....that's no good. We have to intervene and re-program people's brains and start getting to them at a young age so it will be most effective. e have to force diversity on people. It's for their own good afterall.....
