School employees have a responsibility to prevent harassment while kids are in their care so I'm all for an anti-bullying environment. IMO teachers and administrators need more authority to just expell kids who are known trouble makers. That would fix a lot of things. I have no idea what these laws in NJ will do, or if they will do anything at all. Most of the time these kinds of things make a big splash and give little result. Time will tell.

We most certainly do! In fact, we need useless band-aid legislation against name-calling with more corollaries than you can shake a stick at. Bullying must be defined to the nth degree, with every possible type and potential instance being spelled out clearly. And after this is accomplished, there must be an entire Federal network of programs involving various therapies and remedial methodologies--both for the bullies and their victims, as well as traumatized relatives.

Otherwise, how are lawyers and bureaucrats going to profit?

What is the legal definition of bullying?

Where does this type of legislation end? in schools? We can police peoples behavior for anything. The list is endless.

There is no define legal definition of bullying except another persons word against theirs.

They system could be abused with endless lawsuits.

It will never end. It is typical government intrusion into our freedom and personal lives.

There have been bullies since Cain and Abel.

Our government can't balance the budget, but they want to raise our children?

Government, at any level, should not be raising children.

The government mandates that we send our children to school. Children need protection when they are in someone else's care...Parents aren't allowed to spend every day with their kids at school to watch over them...Someone needs to supervise what takes place in schools. Maybe a tough law against bullying will force parents to educate their kids about the effects and consequences of "bully behavior." I hope so!

"I can do whatever I want! Don't you dare tell me what I can and can not do!"...I think there is a time and a place to rebel against rules and fight against certain rules...But when it comes to allowing kids to bully other kids in mean and cruel ways I draw the line...Children form their identities during their early years. And how they are treated affects their self-esteem and their sense of "worth." If a child is the "butt" of jokes and teased and "put-down" in mean ways it could have long-lasting effects...I'm sure there will be disputes over what constitutes bullying behavior and this is okay...But I feel that it's best to err on the side of caution when it comes to a child's self-esteem....Parents need to take more responsibility for their children's behavior. And a lot of parents probably need to "clean-up their act" too so they won't set bad examples for their kids.

A couple of years ago, when being blasted by a parent of one of my baseball players, when I told her of her son's actions. She asked him if it was true, he of course lied, and she just verbally assailed me. Even when the two other coaches (who were standing right there with me), assured her I was telling the truth, she would not believe us and took the word of her 8 year old 'angel', ''who never lies''.

Really, you take the word of a 8 year old child over someone who has coached youths for 35 years?
