Kids/adults who can stick up for themselves are rarely bullied. Bullies go after weaklings, they really don't want to fight. Deep down, they are cowards.
Is beating up the bully the Christian thing to do?

Yes, if that is what it takes to stop a beating.

Why should my child suffer because someone else can't teach theirs' tolerance.

This is real life, not just talk here. If someone tries to bully you, and you let them, they will continue.

Things can get out of control these days...Look at all the suicides...Some kids who are repeatedly bullied reach a "final straw" and breaking point and decide to end their own lives...Other kids decide to seek revenge on others. They bring guns to school and massacre their classmates and teachers...There is no telling what the effects of bullying might be. And most of the damage is internal and not always "seen." Kids lose confidence and self-esteem when they are repeatedly bullied.
