GE was awarded 44 contracts totaling over $46,000,000 and 44 grants totaling more than $79,000,000 from the Obama-Pelosi $757 billion dollar stimulus package.

Millions of dollars in stimulus funds were used by GE in green energy projects.

Today GE announced that it was going to gut its offshore wind-power plans.

Warren Buffet crawled into bed with the government with that deal to sell GE back billions of their stock. I can't fault him for being a typically greedy mogul and using his influence to his own best interests but now he does look two faced. So much for that phony baloney charity he and Bill Gates have going. They wouldn't donate a dime unless they'd get back a dollar. Its all about power and influence.

I'm sure they will keep the money as they have other wind projects, offshore costs a lot more that land based windmills. The writing is on the wall and federal money will be drying up for renewable investments, no subsidies, no private investment because it's unprofitable. It's really as simple as that, this would be the first area they will vacate because it's the most unprofitable. If all the subsidies for renewables disappeared overnight so would all these projects.

I wonder if GE will pay taxes again in 2013 after Obama is out?

Wind power is an expensive-upkeep solution.
It is why farmers and ranchers who opt to have windmills on their property are given a graduated-ownership/profit plan. The first year, they own 10%, the power company 90%. Next year, they own 20%, power company 80%. By the time the property owners have full ownership, it is time for them to replace the generators and hubs - a very expensive proposition, especially if you have a huge wind farm. So building a giant wind farm offshore means even more expense for upkeep. Anyone who couldn't figure that out from the get-go needs to be canned, or just given crayons to write in their ledgers.
