I gotta hand it to Cuba though. They have had 52 years of iron-fist rule and stagnation. Yet they inexplicably still manage to convince the odd dupe that their's is a country worth emulating.

Me too! Maybe the OP would like to go live under Castro. The door is open.

Because they don't have fast food franchises like McDonalds. I used to work with Amercan Diabetes Association and one of the things we learned is that when a fast food giant is introduced into a virgin market, diabetes related illness can shoot up almost 80%.

Cubans have to subsist on mostly a locally grown food supply, which means more agricultural products without the added hormones, dyes, flavor enhancers, and preservatives we enjoy so much here.

I like Cuban food. There's a great little hole in the wall Cuban place right around the corner from my home.

Other than that, there's not much to say about this thread, as it's based on a false premise. 'Nuff said.

Nice way to try to shift the debate. Sweden is not socialist, it is a mixed economy, albeit one where the government plays a larger role than in the United States. However, there is still a lot of private industry in Sweden and some industries are actually less regulated in Sweden than the US.

It's like saying Saudi Arabia and Norway are both countries based on religion. Yeah, they both have religious symbols on their flags and both have an official religion, but they are very different. Just like Cuba and Sweden.

That is a load of crap. It is a communist state. You don't see what is going down in that country at all.
They can tell you they have a life expectancy of 100 if they want, but there is a reason they all want to escape. That is all propaganda.

We used to have a small Cuban restaurant here in Fort Worth. I loved the spices they used on their arroz con pollo (if I recall my 'chicken and rice' Spanish correctly).

Pity they closed after a couple of years.
