As some Republicans are so fond of saying, everyone should have some skin in the game.

People may view war a little differently if they or a family member had to go off to fight in it. Plus there are economic reasons as well. We spend a huge amount on recruitment and retention bonuses. I believe career servicemen should get paid competitively, but those below the senior enlisted not so much. They don't make that much now, but we spend a ton on trying to recruit them and getting them to stay for one more tour.

In this case i would support armed resistance against anyone that tried to enforce the draft.

If many Congress members can support an unprovoked war of aggression, then I am sure most Congress members would support drafting US troops to defend Israel since it will be nowhere near as politically difficult.
The draft would not work today unless there was a direct threat to American home soil. The youth would call the governments bluff and refuse to go, The government would be overwhelmed with so many draft dodgers that there would be no jails to hold them and would be powerless to do anything about it.

Yes! America should draft to build up a force, 200,000 strong just to defend Israel.
Otherwise, God and Jesus will be very angry!

War ends nothing. Warmongering Republicans are more likely to engage this country in unnecessary wars and reinstitute the draft. This is because the GOP doesn't know how to respect other countries or communicate with them in an effective manner without flexing military muscle or the treat of using it, The Republican decision to go to war is usually the result of their inability to find non-military solutions to problems and conflicts. They are not flexible.

President Obama is far smarter and far more effective in his dealings with other countries. He would do all he could to avoid a military conflict that escalated to such a level that a draft was necessary.

Obama has done nothing different, if anything he has built upon what Bush started.

I agree with you Bob..that would get rid of the chickenhawks cheering on the side lines while others die.

Who served?

I would support allowing an all volunteer US force to march right into Israel and kick ever single settler and IDF soldier out of the occupied territories.

And if they resisted by force, then they would get a bullet.

How does that grab you?

Would agree to this if in addition those soldiers marched into Palistine and killed all of the hamas members. Then we will have gotten rid of the religious nutjobs standing in the way of peace from both sides
