Oregon would be Romania... Not too shabby and not that bad considering Romania has 21 million people and an oil industry and Oregon has under 4 million people. Per capita we'd be Finland or Hong Kong (PPP).
Virginia compares to Taiwan or Norway; not bad. What it doesn't show is that bulk of Virginia's GDP is generated in the Blue North near Washington DC. The dirt poor south is essentially a continuation of rural Tennessee.
Interesting. Turkey has a similar GDP but not the same standard of living as Iceland and Australia. Michigan would be like Argentina. Hey, I always wanted to go there...
