Any person speaking freely is always responsible for the effect his speach has on others including accepting responsibility for insult or lies.

You have no clue what you are talking about.
And you are clueless if you think you can say whatever you feel here in America.

Some dumb examples...

Go to an airport and say the words bomb and suitcase in the same sentence.

Stand on a street corner in Harlem and proclaim your support of blacks in chains.

On a street corner in Washington DC explain to the crowd how you will assassinate the president.

Go to San Francisco and hold an anti-gay rally.

Better yet tell a policeman "F**K YOU and watch what happens even though there is no laws against saying it.

You're confused along with the OP.

We are talking about "government" enforced limitations of free speech.

You are perfectly able to have an "anti-gay" rally in SFO, but no doubt those crazy "liberals" would be there to shout down your free speech from across the street...You poor thing. ...Grow up.

Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and by many state constitutions and state and federal laws, with the exception of obscenity, defamation, incitement to riot, and fighting words,[1] as well as harassment, privileged communications, trade secrets, classified material, copyright, patents, military conduct, commercial speech such as advertising, and time, place and manner restrictions.

You get the "time, place and manner restrictions"?

Unfortunately, many do not understand and appreciate the value of free speech. Free speech has been under attack from both the left and the right by those that seek to gain an advantage for their particular position.

As Ron Paul said, "we don't need the First Amendment to talk about the weather." The first amendment is there because the framers knew that people from both sides would try to contain free speech. And that's why they made it so simple.

So now we have the left trying to curtail speech that they deem hateful or discriminatory. Of course, that's no worse than the right trying to curtail speech that is vulgar or offensive.

Too bad Australia has succumbed to this attack on free speech.

I agree with your comment about Ron Paul.... but who are the "progressives" that are trying to protect free speech? Do you have some quotes?

In the USA, it's the right wing along with the DC elite status quo (including Obama) that are limiting free speech. The only faction in Congress to oppose this are the "liberals" and the "Ron Paul" types. So they are outnumbered.

I know this doesn't fit your simpleton idea that all liberals are bad because you have no clue what is going on.

We should retaliate by exercising our right to freedom of expression by burning the Australian flag.

[or whatever flag we choose!]

Here's just the latest incident of Obama (with the full sympathy of the right wing, excluding real Libertarians) undermining Constitutional rights to free speech.

Only because the victim here is Muslim, and has views that right wingers don't agree with is this not a public outrage.

Liberals have every right shout from the top of their lungs that hateful speech is wrong. That's not limiting your free speech rights.

Yet they're the self professed arbiters of what is and isn't "hate." How convenient.
