Sorry to be so harsh, but this is delusional.

If you are threatened (especially in your home with an intruder) .. you are out to protect yourself and family. Your adrenal is at it's peak. You do not have time to hesitate or you may be the victim. You're in my house without an invite ... adios amigo.
Nobody is saying that the kid should just walk, but since when does burglary warrant the death penalty?

This isn't the case of a death penalty. This was a kill or be killed moment for the homeowner and the homeowner won. You bleeding heart types are nothing more than enablers contributing to this sorry notion of the criminals being the victim (usually a victim of society).

I hope the homeowner doesn't get in trouble for baiting the animals to his hunting area.
How about if the sign said "I have the Coroner on speed-dial" ?

These criminals couldn't care less.

Not at all, the homeowner had the gun and the kid was defenseless.

I don't wonder that at all.

I'll be willing to bet this thug threw away any and all opportunities to learn and prepare for his future by applying himself in school.

An elderly retired bus driver on oxygen just to help him breath vs an 18 year old punk. If the home owner didn't have the gun he could have been killed or put in the hospital by that "poor helpless kid" you're trying to defend.

By the time the homeowner determined that, it could have been too late. It's easier to remove the scum from the pond.
