"One of the world's largest motor manufacturers is working with scientists based in Switzerland to design a car that can read its driver's mind and predict his or her next move...By measuring brain activity, monitoring patterns of eye movement and scanning the environment around the car, the team thinks the car will be able to predict what a driver is planning to do and help him or her complete the manoeuvre safely."

Mind-reading car could drive you round the bend | Technology | The Guardian

Think about some of the thoughts you've had while you were driving your car. My first reaction to my car reacting to what I am thinking was EGADS! If I'm thinking I wish I had a machine gun mounted on the hood of my car to shoot out the tires of the guy in front of me who didn't use his turn signals does my car know I have a warped sense of humor? If my mind thinks, I would just love some ice cream, is it going to use GPS to locate and stop at every Baskin Robbins on the way home? If you are thinking about your mistress while your wife is in the passenger seat is the car going to dial your girfriend on the phone in the car? If you are driving on the highway and think, look there is no traffic going in the other direction, I wish I was driving over there, is your car going to pull into oncoming traffic?

I know the reasearchers have only safety in mind but how do you drive and control your thoughts to ONLY safety issues? We don't all react to our thoughts. Does this scare anyone? All I can say is if they come out with this technology, Congress better preempt it with some laws or we'll have court cases with the defendents claiming they didn't do anything, the car did it.

I think this is highly controversial.

I sincerely hope I'm never inflicted with the paranoia that seems to be growing in frequency and intensity these days.

What?

Can you see that this is another conspiracy between godless scientists and engineers? Only Jesus should be allowed to read your thoughts, safe or otherwise.

Sounds like a fun way to play with a automaton. I could get off the bus and think to the car, "Please drive me home." That would be a usefull as a well trained hores pulling the buggy back from the bar. Great idea.

It will be, if the car doesn't agree with your political outlook, religious affiliation, or philosophy of child-raising.

Or how pissed off you are at the person next to you or in front of you, who is texting while driving. Not paying attention to the road, for my part, car thinking for me would not be good!
