A question should be, does BEING trans (or, SHOULD being trans) be something that disqualifies someone from service, on its face? Flat out, nothing else wrong except being trans? If so, why? Let's hear some INTELLIGENT reasons why it might be a bad thing?
Outside of the point you brought up (Hormone treatment, they're going to be off-kilter during that), the only reason idiots think that Transgenders shouldn't be in the military is that it's outside of their cavemen-like black and white worldview and anything outiside of that is "deviant' and "wrong".
What a shock. I guess wearing heels to your first day of bootcamp will now be in vogue.
"The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), which pushed to end the military’s gay ban, is urging President Obama to sign an executive order prohibiting discrimination based on “gender identity.”
I meant the maybe to be part of the statement since I am not so sure about the born thing. However, I do know that those transgenders aren't born that way.
The fetal brain develops during the intrauterine period in the male direction through a direct action of testosterone on the developing nerve cells, or in the female direction through the absence of this hormone surge. In this way, our gender identity (the conviction of belonging to the male or female gender) and sexual orientation are programmed or organized into our brain structures when we are still in the womb.
However, since sexual differentiation of the genitals takes place in the first two months of pregnancy and sexual differentiation of the brain starts in the second half of pregnancy, these two processes can be influenced independently, which may result in extreme cases in trans-sexuality. This also means that in the event of ambiguous sex at birth, the degree of masculinization of the genitals may not reflect the degree of masculinization of the brain.
There is no indication that social environment after birth has an effect on gender identity or sexual orientation.
You do know that the APA which yielded to political pressure brought to bear by the gay protesters who invaded their conferences in the early 1970s and has continued bending to the will of well organized sexual deviants has recently admitted they really have no idea why one person is a heterosexual and another a heterosexual?
They have disowned the gay gene and born gay theories and may even be poised to do some real scientific research instead of adjusting the science to fit the wishes and desires of those impacted by it. We can only hope.
There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors.
Outside of the point you brought up (Hormone treatment, they're going to be off-kilter during that), the only reason idiots think that Transgenders shouldn't be in the military is that it's outside of their cavemen-like black and white worldview and anything outiside of that is "deviant' and "wrong".
But hey, idiots be idiots.
Cavemen should be out doing the fighting. High heel wearers to their parades.
So long as they can meet the standard, then they are physically fit for duty.
And if somebody in power really gets themselves worked into a tizzy, feeling as if the force is somehow being emasculated, then just go an increase all of the physical fitness standardized tests by at least 30 to 40 percent. They are too damn low as it is, for the most part. Couldn't hurt to increase the height of the bar across the board anyway. Maybe if they do that, then they won't feel as if anything is being compromised.
