We need to end "if you have "nothing" you get everything, if you have a lot, we take everything, and if you're anywhere in between we take a ton, but not give much back"...
have you seen the eligibility requirements for SSI?
If you have the sense to be able to save up $10K, you're denied. However you're allowed one car, with no limit on value.
Public housing is similar. In NYC, you only have to pay 30% of INCOME towards rent. That's how you could afford to live in a $1,300/mo apartment there as long as you get past the waiting list.
If you're making $1,000/mo, that means you pay $300/mo, gov't pays $1,000/mo. This is who you end up with bling cars in section 8 housing areas.
If you're poor, you can have the lifestyle, so long as you keep traceable cash low
If you're way rich, you can afford it anyways.
We need to look at putting an end to those who drain the system rather than complain about not putting ENOUGH into the system.
Another group we need to focus on are those who get earned income tax credit that puts their net tax payment into negative (i.e. they're draining). This should never be allowed.
No matter how much you cut the rich's tax, it will almost certainly will keep the net tax payment positive.

end tax loopholes for everyone including politicians, then cut the irs by 50% and goverment by another 50%. that way the USA is not wasting anymore money than it needs to.
Tax all income from all sources with a single deduction at the 90th percentile of income. Set the rate to cover all of the operating expense of government, including wars and defense, and only borrow for capital repairs and improvements.
That would really cut the loopholes for everyone and put the burden of operating the country on the people that own it. If a few want to renounce their citizenship to avoid this tax the government will simply take all the money they ever earned as US citizens no matter where they stashed it.
If I make $15/hr., get laid off, get 60%($9/hr.) unemployment, no longer have to drive back and forth to work(costs 50 cents/mile to drive avg. says AAA), have lower tax rate because I make less, have 2 kids who get free lunches now because I hit the low income bracket, get limited kids health ins. and food stamps for same reason, why on earth would you look for work?
Because sooner or later that Unemployment insurance is going to run out..
The trick is to make certain the UI never runs out. Supporting the unemployed and unemployable is way cheaper then the populist uprising we really need.
More incessant whining from the Eat the Rich crowd.
...and none of them have figured out that you can't eat the rich and have them, too.
