Typical. Obama supporters either defending the decision or denying the story simply because the story is from Fox News. My only problem with this decision is the huge number of minutes and text messages this will put on the people. I do foresee a mass transition to prepaid no-contract phones. We use to have collections calling frequently after my wife lost her job and her medical bills made us decide between debts or medicine and surgery, no brained there. Collections agencies don't always use the same number and sometimes don't show a number at all. If you hang up on them, they'll sometimes call right back. We no longer get those calls.
No friggin way i'm going to support this crap, just more crap from this administration, admit it. Isn't there a right to privacy right or something.
I see as you say, more people going to prepaid no contract phones. What a pain, if people start getting harassed by collection agencies on their cells.
To say just pay your bills, is easy, unless someone has lost a job, you still have bills to pay, how can you with no job. This sucks another dumb a-- rule by this administration.
I am lucky enough to not have been in this situation where we get harrased, but i do have friends that have. Collection agencies can and will make your life a living hell.
I don't know what you are talking about because the Fox story makes it clear that it only applies to defaulted government loans... maybe they changed it... but that's way I read which is incidentally before you even posted... as to the original OP's question.. I don't think harassing someone through a cellphone is even legit considering it uses the person's minutes which they can't have back... you are in effect costing them money by making repeated phone calls throughout the day which is what the government plans on doing... its not a simple one phone call and that's it... the government will probably outsource it to the private collection agency who will threaten and lie to you to get money as well so the government can blame them because they don't want the bad PR and don't have the balls to do it...
The government already recovers some of these loans by grabbing tax refunds and even Social Security, and they pocket a hefty 18-20 percent (I've seen both numbers reported) as a "fee". I know people who have had this happen for years and have lost a few thousand dollars in these "fees" to the point where the loans would have been fully paid off if the fees had been applied to the principal instead of being pocketed by the government.
So the government whining is like crocodile tears, the government is making millions of dollars off of distressed student loan defaulters.
I pay my bills but I can see why this is an issue with more and more people dumping the land line and just having a cell for all contact. Nobody knows my prepaid phone number though so I never get junk calls, just the random wrong number.
i liked it back in the day when it was against the law to give out cell numbers. not only do i get wrong numbers ( wich is ok crap happenes ) but i have every other person calling me. i pay my bills and don't owe no one so im not worried about that. but it's all these companies that try to sell you crap you dont want. thank god my phone has a number block out list
