In my opinion all American car companies are out of their minds. Ford has raised prices significantly on their preferred vehicles like the Mustang and F-150. Not so much on the utilitarian crap-boxes like the Fusion, but on the others it's nuts.
I bought a 2001 Mustang GT-Premium pkg for $26,400. Ten years later, these clowns want $34k for a similarly equipped 2011.
The Camaros are also priced way out control.
...and you couldn't give me a Chrysler product.
I'm done with American cars. If I'm going to pay that much I'll buy something made to last longer than 5 years.
It's not surprising that a discussion of GM is in City-Data's POC forums rather than the Automotive threads. When big business openly enters the realm of politics it's much like a actor or actress whose acting career is finished and who turns to politics for attention.
Cost of production is up on cars--think metal prices. How is BOA's cost of production going up? They're just trying to sheer off even more profit from consumers.

Charging more for the preferred models? Sounds like the market working. The F-150 buyers aren't buying a vehicle, they're now buying the brand mystique - rather like Harley Davidson motorcycles. Of course you charge what the market can bear.
Anyway, if I see fewer F-150s and more Fusions used for commuting on the LA freeways, I for one will be quite happy.
