I aint scared of dying just want to be left alone.I mean left alone not left.
I wish every American, including you, had access to free health care. I strongly dislike Obama's plan, which I see as a just a corporate give-away. I would have much preferred something like Medicare for all Americans.
Several people in my extended family died of colon cancer. Unfortunately, just having health insurance doesn't mean that you'll survive some of these cancers that defy treatment.
That's true, NH. I don't blame anyone but cancer for my dad's death. However, I can't help but think that things would have gone differently if he had it checked when the symptom was just constipation. To save money, he waited until it was blatantly obvious that something was serioulsy wrong before going to the doctor. I hope parfleche doesn't have to make the same decisions my dad had to make. I hate to think of any American not going to the doctor to get something looked into because he or she can't justify the cost of the bill. I'm not sure what the market price of a colonscopy was back in 1995, but I would gladly pay it today if it meant my dad were still alive.

Nothing in life is free. Someone always has to pay for it. Why, oh why, can't the pro-central planners understand that?
Bear in mind, lifelongMOgal, each time an uninsured walks into an ER for something treatable in a doctor's office, you and I are paying somewhere between 5 and 10 times as much as it could have cost. I don't think the NHC plan passed was good, but I also am cognizant of the hidden costs that go over the radar of 90% of Americans. That makes doing squat an unacceptable option, and a portion of its unacceptable nature is the extra costs incurred.

Uninsured doesn't automatically mean someone doesn't pay. Get the government out of healthcare. The costs have soared since the federal government put Medicare/Medicaid payment structures into place. Look how government drives up the price of bringing medications and new medical technology to market.
Oddly enough, no one who wants to argue for single payer ever care to address the added costs the government has forced upon the medical bills of every American by their interference and fees to companies attemting to bring medical therapies and technologies to market.
With the news that the HHS is going to require insurance companies turn over every single individuals medical records via the "claims" filed I may be among the uninsured. Obamacare destroys my insurance in 2.5 more years anyway. No reason not to become uninsured to protect my personal medical information from Queen Sebelius et al.
LOL, Medicares' admin costs are 3.5 percent of its budget. I know NO private sector corp whose SG&A is anywhere near that low. Doctors hate NHC because just like decades ago, GPs will not be able to gross incomes that should be reserved specifically for those doing far more challenging tasks. Insurance companies hate it because they are incredibly bloated, and rendering themselves obsolete. Check out their financials (most are public), and compare their SG&A percentages to most other US industries.
PS, I worked for a multibillon med equipment mfg, and you are 100% wrong. Costs skyrocketed because what killed someone 30 years ago is now a 2 day hopsital visit, using equipment that costs millions per facility, with R & D costs born by the manufacturer tens of millions. 40 years ago, when my father had a mid-size heart attack, there was nothing the hospital could do that did more than mildly mitigate pain. It was a cheap visit, today he'd be home 2 days later, with non-invasive surgery, at a 6 figure cost, the majority of which was not profit, nor gov't, but R & D translated into a unit cost per procedure.
PSS, My ex employer mentioned made a higher operating profit selling VCRs and stereo equipment than lifesaving medical equipment.

I could not agree more, well said. I had already determined that I would cancel my existing medical/dental insurance, should the Supreme Court uphold the HCR Act as constitutional. The $2,500 fine/penalty/tax I would be required to pay the IRS for not having coverage is far less than what I pay for insurance now.
Ironically, the HCR Act was originally intended to provide health insurance coverage to every American and will end up creating even more people who will not be covered.
Millions more will find themselves uninsured, and then medical costs will really begin to skyrocket. When Congress reduced payments for MediCare costs last year they ensured that even fewer doctors would acceptable MediCare patients. Before Congress made the change to MediCare, 83% of the doctors in Alaska opted out of MediCare and will not see anyone receiving MediCare or see them on a very limited basis. Now the percentage of doctors opting out of MediCare is closer to 90%. Any more cuts by Congress and it will be completely worthless because no doctor will touch anyone on MediCare. So what is the point of having coverage if you cannot get treatment?
I don't know about you... but my salary tripled, my stocks quadrupled, my home multiplied by ten... Obama's Summer of Recovery was awesome... oh right, that was in dream land... now that I am looking at Obama's Post-Summer of Recovery... my salary is going down, my retirement portfolio is half where it was before, my home didn't multiply but is worth thousands less than what I paid it... whew... good thing Obama can't do any more damage... what do you mean he is running for a second term? I don't think my job, retirement, or home can take any more... its becoming a nightmare now!!
I honestly believe that the so called depression stems from a number of factors, the number one being the strain on ssa to solve the problems for an aging baby boom generation who feel they have paid their dues. This generation was founded on hard work ethics, before computers, iphones and ipads. These people were brought up to believe if you work hard you will be rewarded, in the last couple of decades a new alternative thinking has taken place by generations born from the baby boomers. The thinking is think smarter not harder. This in itself has lead to skyrocketing obesity and medical costs. Exercise is something we do in living rooms and we are inundated with new forms of medications, commercials targeting depressed people etc. The days of working hard for most Americans means sitting at a keyboard clacking and crunching numbers....When I was in the Marines we would work 14 hours at times unloading mail from sealand trucks, as an electrician I would be in trenches installing conduit all day. Now that these jobs are less than desireable for your average American illegals have jumped in to perform them. They do it with pride and determination. I can remember seeig them watch me as I wired up a panel and they were learning, absorbing the information. Now that the babyboom generation has slowed the generation x's ask why are we in a recession, its because they werent taught how to work hard and keep this country in the hands of Americans. So yes the depression was caused by the inability or know how to get off the a%% and perform real work.
