Over the last decade the US government and many rich families have taken precautions in case of a large catastrophe. There have been many "continuity of operations" plans since 9/11 that involves secret centers around the country that are not specified to the public. A lot of the elite have bought land in South America and Asia, and have moved their operations there. Basically the multinationals, save for a few, would not be affected if there are large number of casualties in America. After all the new consumers are in Europe, BRIC and the workers are in developing countries.
Would it be surprising if the elite, getting inspiration from Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and similar sources, maneuver a "reset" the country and rebuild anew? They don't seem too scared of the protests, I believe they know something.
Seems like aimless speculation to me. The elite would much rather maintain the status quo than truly shake things up. They'll wait out the current public anger and hope that the American people forget, as we usually do. Worse comes to worse, they'll let the poor start **** and then hole up in the compounds and allow their private armies to handle business. Or they'll just leave the country.

How would this work? There's no way the government could bring in enough revenue if a large percentage of the population were allowed to die. Do you not think the rest of the world would swoop in and annihilate us in our weakened condition?

What operations do the "elites" have that they moved to South America?
I am sure there are secret backup locations but not for the deep dark nefarious reasons you think.

Why would they be scared of the protests when the radical left is funding/organizing the OWS? Why would they be afraid of the useful idiots they are using as tools for their agenda?
Most mid- large corporations have disaster recovery and/or dual processing centers to continue processing critical business functions in the event of weather related closures, labor duisputes and potential terrorism. Most do not disclose the location of these alternate sites to the general public.
