yeah, because 2400 lives lost at Pearl Harbor is worse than the 260,000 lost in Japan which included women, children, and the elderly.
What about the 20million dead Chinese, Koreans and fillipinos?
They were killing on average over 3k civilians DAILY in their occupied territories.
I always find it wierd that people tunnel vision in on solely the US vs. Japan aspect of WW2.
I'd laugh to see the reaction of a room full of 80 year old chinese people to some of the apologist babble that I'm seeing posted here. They'd have some really interesting commentary to add to the discussion no doubt.
It's a VERY sore subject even to this day. It's hard to get people to give up their US-centric views.
Americans had about as much respect for Chinese people as the Japanese did.
Not to take away from the fact that the Japanese suffered from Short Man Syndrome, I still don't know what the Americans' problems with the Chinese were.
The OP's article cited the wikileaks which are from State Dept wires. Folks really need to understand real journalism can occur outside of the mainstream press.
um, yeah.. this one has the same source, minus the editorializing.

yeah, cut that number in half. But even so, horrific and no one is excusing the Japanese for their war crimes. But does that mean that we should have also gone into Germany and exterminated every blonde hair blue eyed person because of the 6 million Jews they killed?
and we are focused on US-WW2 right now as the topic of the thread is about so.
1) Obama is not in position to apologize for any WW2 atrocities. Nobody from the current generation can, including the POTUS.
2) Neither can current generation Japanese. For who can they accept apologies? For people burned by a nuclear bomb? Impossible! And they cannot apologize to Japanese victims in China, Korea or the Philippines for what their ancestors did.
WW2 with all its atrocities ended in 1945. Case closed.

Nah more like double the number.
Should Russia apologize to Germany for making Hitler to commit suicide?
Not sure what history books you studied. The ones I read in school back in the 1970's listed the Russians promise in Yalta and Tehran to declare war on Japan plus the Nukes put the icing on the cake for the surrender. Given also the fact that for the prior two years the Imperial Forces suffered one defeat after another.
Even without the Russians Japan's surrender would have been imminent.
I had the "new and improved" history books from the 80's when I was in school.
In those books, WWII started when Japan suddenly and without provocation bombed Pearl Harbor, and ended when we dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Some other interesting stuff happened before, after, and inbetween, as I recall.
Should Russia apologize to Germany for making Hitler to commit suicide?
you're logic is a bit flawed here....re-read what you wrote and you will figure it out
