All the more reason to elect Ron Paul and like-minded libertarians that would stop federalizing the states into a one-size-fits-all solution

Thanks for the links.
I thought this post from the last link was especially good:

Let's be realistic, there are things most of us don't like about the Republican party but a Democrat party with complete power whose agenda is based on social welfare, universal healthcare, high taxation, high regulation and soft on crime, would pretty much end up as a larger version of what inner cities are - that is a place where no business would really want to start up or stay and with the business gone so goes the jobs.
So I would pick the Republican side - it's a no brainer, I need to support my family more than anything else, just like most people.

For my personal tastes: I want a country that enforces its existing immigration laws. But the states that are doing this are being challenged, sued, and so on.

I want a country that values unborn lives. But there are no states where abortion is illegal. Roe vs. Wade can be overturned to simply give the power back to individual states, but then there are people who will complain about the "poor people who can't afford to kill their babies a few states away."

I hate the idea of guns. They are huge in some states (hello, Montana!) and I don't know how I could feel comfortable with such an accepted gun presence.

But at the same time I know if we were divided liberal/conservative I'd have to weigh everything and pick/choose my issues. But at least I could have SOME of them.

Just a few examples. If these don't help you, I don't know what will.
In my opinion you won't get what you're asking for by splitting the US.

Typically the majority of those who serv are conservative and vote conservative they would migrate to the red.
Farmers are conservatives.
Those among our most productive are conservative.
Most small business owners are conservative.
At the very least the red states would be well fed and have a hard working class of people.
Dems enjoy the solid majority of low income voters. These folks tend to be unskilled and under educated. I would guess that they would migrate from a red state area to the blue. The red states would likely stop a good many of the social programs that these folks currently enjoy.
Another factor. Red states tend to believe in the right to carry firearms and it is acceptable to use them against criminals violating ones property. I would guess that the criminal element would migrate to where the law gives them a decided advantage over the victims.
The independant minded in blue states would more than likely be an even split. Those who lean red would migrate eventually.
Which would be more productive ?? The blue or the red?I think both would fail. Like many marriages the strengths of 1 are out weighed when combined with the strengths of 2. There needs to be balance.
Unfortunately we dont have this right now because both parties are anything but different. Different rhetoric same actions.

No beacuse most people in the military are conversative, so if the country were to split, most(not all) would want to live in the conservative nation. So I don't think they would want to miss with the part of america.

I really think it's time we let liberals live the way they want to, without impacting the rest of us,
and vice versa for conservatives.

Can anyone else see this happening down the road?
We are clearly not the "united" states of America and haven't been for a while.
And maybe we shouldn't have to be any longer.
The United States of America we certainly still are. United politically, no, but that can be changed back to the old days once we get rid of the left who wants so badly to change this nation into a European style socialist state. Once enough people see what is happening and what Obama meant when he talked about changing the nation to that very point the problems are over with.

How do you propose we divide into left and right controlled states? Do some of us have to move to a new state if the wrong side gets control of where we live? I think we have to just unite again and stop all the filthy talk at each other.

Roy, don't worry. No matter how the divide is done, Kansas will end up on the conservative side.

Um, you hate the idea of guns? So you have a plan to defend the borders of your new country that doesn't depend on such an icky choice and is equally effective?

You need to stop reading the news until after the 2012 election and, better yet, take a breather from this forum. Your blood pressure will return to normal and you can rejoin the REAL world.

It's still the "United" States of America in many ways our forefathers DID perceive, and we're all in this together, no matter what our political beliefs.
