Conservative media outlets have criticized the Occupy Wall Street protesters as mob-like, left-wing extremists with no voice and no real agenda — or as the Democrats' answer to the tea party. But the protesters' critique of capitalist society can't be so easily dismissed.

I think John Paul II was absolutely right. Free run capitalism does put the profit motive over people. I still think capitalism--with rules attached--is the best system around, but it has to be tempered with a concern for community, employees and the poor. Many on Wall street live in such a bubble, that they have no idea how the rest of America lives.

I think it's quite a stretch to compare the marjority of these protestors to a Pople.

There's a difference between philosophy and behavior, and you know that.

Sure, for a lot of these kids it's probably the party of their lives. But putting that aside, I do think there may be philosophical similarities between many of the late blessed Pope's statements and why the protesters are marching.

Interestingly, all the protestors I've seen wanted decent work at a fair wage. They certainly weren't demanding handouts for their livelihood.

If you want decent work at a fair wage you have to be looking for a job not protesting in streets day in and day out. Nobody is going to brig them work there.

Can you or anybody tell us what they specifically consider "decent work" and a "fair wage"?

If they have no skills or experience are they willing to start at the bottom rung of their job or career and hustle their way to whatever their goals and aspirations are?

Whining about the job situation on CD by conservatives: Totally acceptable.
Whining about job situation in real life by progressives: Totally unacceptable.

Go figure.
